New Zealand's Beamish passed six runners in the final 200m to win in 3:54.91 over a field that included Craig Engles (5th in 3:56.00). In the women's race, Norris lead nine women under 4:30 to win in a PB of 4:25.92, the fastest mile time in the world this year. Nikki Hiltz was second (4:26.48).

Doubt Kipchoge at your own peril as the WR holder was even more dominant today than he was in 2016 as he walked away from the field over the last 10k. Training partners's Abdi Negeeye and Bashir Abdi took silver and bronze, with Kenya's Lawrence Cherono just missing out. Galen Rupp ran with the lead group for most of the race, but couldn't respond to the break and finished 8th.

Warholm's WR overshadowed everything else in Tokyo on the first session of day 5 but we still recap it here for you.

Camacho's-Quinn's near-perfect season continued but she came up short in her WR quest, the men's LJ was extremely dramatic and Shericka Jackson was surprisingly eliminated in the women's 200.

Sifan Hassan, running 12 hours before the 5,000m final, fell on the final lap, picked herself up and still won her heat.

FloJo’s 33-year-old 10.62 Olympic record is gone as Thompson-Herah moved to #2 on the all-time list. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce earned her 4th Olympic 100m medal by taking silver in 10.74.

Ross let up at the line and missed out on the final auto spot in his heat by .03. China’s Lijiao Gong won the women’s shot put as the USA’s Raven Saunders & New Zealand’s Valerie Adams took silver & bronze.

Should Hassan pull off triple gold, it would automatically become the greatest accomplishment in the history of women's distance running. But with Faith Kipyegon, Gudaf Tsegay, Hellen Obiri, and Letesenbet Gidey standing in her way, she's no lock for gold in any event.
