Wow.
Great for him.
But Jakob, Edris and Barega, would have all beaten him easily.
Without even talking about , the old great like Bekele, Hicham, Mo Farah or Kipchoge and Lagat.

Barega I’ll give you but really no guarantees on the other two. Very rough conditions for 5,000. And it wasn’t just the last 400.
Bun, but, but he won. Who cares how fast lap was.

Correct. The last 1600 was sub-4.
I disagree. He threw down a 59.4 penultimate lap and it was a sub-13 race. This is all after a 10k and qualifying heats, AND it was hot and humid.
He has absolutely nothing to prove. He has cemented himself alongside the greatest of all time, easily.
not about the last lap but the last 1600 in 3:59
they were not jogging
great race by Cheptegei
Jakob would not have stood a chance, which is why he ducked the big boys. Too bad he's going to get smacked in the 1500 as well.
This was only the second Olympic 5k win under 13, after Bekele's legendary 2008 run. Chep did what he had to. The heat absolutely was a factor and he handled it

Barega would've won the race for sure, but Jakob, seriously?
For comparisons purpose
1996! Niyongabo last lap: 54:93
2000: Wolde last lap : 53:83
2004: El Guerrouj last lap : 52:93
2008: Bekele last lap: 53"87 (OR race)
2012: Farah last lap: 52:94
2016: Farah last lap: 52:84
He is by far the slowest, even slower than in 1996!!!

How about the penultimate lap, overall time, and heat?
Also, no one was really challenging Cheptegei in the last lap. He just held the front and surged away in the last 100. He wasn't really pressed to run faster. If someone had been challenging for the lead, he would have run 54.x.

Yeah, whatever. Barega would have been dropped in the second-to-last lap because we had to kill sneaky tactics here.

Weak argument, Farah, Bekele , El Guerrouj had all big last km, probably faster than this one on top of a much better last lap.

Nice, dodging the question because it would prove your wrong.

I don't dodge anything. If you have datas provide them, if not, shut up.
