Verified. I kept refreshing but you beat me to it.
Why? Was she tripped?
She'll place last in the final anyway.
The ticket to qualifying is to fking fall down. Ridiculous
Winny Chebet fell in front of her and McGee did a barrel roll over. Haven't watched the replay to see what caused Chebet to go down though.
did Chebet make it? This feels like the Amos and Jewett situation but flipped
Wtf.
Looks like, getting tripped is the easiest way of making the finals.
I like McGee, but she wouldn’t have made the final, if it wasn’t for the fall.
Extremely lucky, no way was she going through in that heat.

Same. I like her but no chance she was actually qualifying, and adding athletes to the final just makes it more likely there is a fall in the final. Not a fan of the decision to advance all these people.

Very true. I have never witnessed an Olympic games or a world championship in track and field with as many incidents of people falling like this in this summer’s Olympics. It’s very strange. It’s almost like the Olympic track is a kind of ice rink easy to fall on.
McGee was very upset after her fall so it’s a kind of redemption. She has nothing to lose in the final now so she should really go for it with less pressure hopefully.
McGee caused the fall in front of her. She should not have been moved to the final.
what a load of crap!
Is Vin Lananna in Tokyo? This is worse than NCAAs, where if you fell in an Oregon jersey you were advanced to the final.
In the cases of Amos, McGee, and Lewandowski it was just a shlt happens in a crowded field situation. That's racing.
I thought this was a joke at first. It isn’t. How could she even pretend she belongs in that final? She was completely out the back in the semi before the trip up.
Correct. She would never have made it is she wasn't impeded. So now she can say she was in the 1500 final. Good for Olympic memories!

Agree she would likely not have made it, but she was not off the back as someone else implied. 4:11 after falling isn't bad, especially for her, and I give her credit for getting up and at least trying to finish as well as she can (unlike Lewandowski who jogged it in).

Between this incident, the Amos incident, and Wale getting tripped in the men’s steeple, it’s very clear that you can “flat tire” (step on or hit the persons shoe in front of you) and not be punished for it. In fact, you may get rewarded for it.
Terrible rule.

That is correct, the trip occurred right before 800 m and it was one big pack and McGee was not even at the very back, in 7th or 8th place by my count. But although McGee tweets she did not cause the fall of Chebet, I'm not sure who else could have. Hull was in front of Chebet and she did not show anything. And it was Chebets trail leg that got caught on something.

Idk she was right in the middle of the pack in the fast heat. Both time qualifiers came from her heat. She certainly got impeded. Yes, the rules have resulted in an extra person being added to races but I would rather have that then uncertainty for athletes who got taken out. There aren't any what ifs by having the impeded runners advance. It doesn't matter how she does in the final. She had a good shot of making the final, now let's see what she can do.

Did a re-watch and it looks like Chebet stepped on the back of Jessica Hull's right foot/shoe, tripping herself.
