A couple dozen DNFs, but she was like "No, this is the Olympics, I'm finishing." Mad respect.

I had no idea who she is, but I was gutted for her when she stopped. 40km into the Olympic marathon, running for bronze. UGH! The walk/hobble to the finish must've felt like death in so many ways.
Kudos to her. Takes fortitude to do that!
I agree. I just looked at the results. I was expecting a DNF next to her name. Then I see 2:48xx . That is definitely a FM Balsy thing todo,
That is what is meant by the Olympic Spirit.

I seem to recall Salpeter didn't like a bottle she got at an aid station and threw it down in anger? That wouldn't seem classy.
Definitely full props for gutting out a finish.
ANyone know her pedigree going into the trials? I am curious if she was in over her head from the jump or just had the heat get to her.

She's got a 2:17 marathon. She runs for Israel but is Kenyan born... but not like Qatar who "buys" athletes... she went to work there as a Nanny and married an Israeli...
Not sure why she pulled up... may not have been the heat or just the heat... could be a cramp.

I think it was a hat and it was pretty early on in the race. She launched that thing into the pavement. Truthfully I thought she grabbed someone else’s to sabotage their race.
Did she miscount laps again??

I remember she came out of nowhere to win the Prague marathon or half marathon in a record time several years ago. There was a thread on here raising the usual suspicions, and her Israeli coach/husband came on accusing Americans and Europeans of all being dopers.
If you look at her progression, she made a Katir like jump in 2018 at age 30.
I think in the thread I was referring to, Canova posted some photos of before 'she got serious', and she was clearly carrying some excess weight.

She's a 2:17 marathoner, #7 all time, and the defending Tokyo Marathon champ. Definitely a common name in the sport.

If you don't know who she is, you probably don't watch many women's marathons. She led the first half of the last world championships in the marathon (2019, where she DNFed). She's the 2020 Tokyo champ. Her PBs are
Marathon: 2:17:45 (Tokyo 2020)
Half marathon: 66:09 (Prague 2019)
10 km: 30:05 (Tilburg 2019)
She also represents Israel, so she stands out in any race.
no, she grabbed her bag and as she was reaching in all the contents fell out to the ground so she threw the empty bag in disgust.
