Incredible. His head just does not seem to be in the game at all. Why would you do that?

He should have known Fanbulleh is a fast closer. Just looks stupid to make a mistake like that. DeGrasse looked the best out of the others so it's probably between him and Lyles.
anything for a flex

You didn’t see the other heats? They were good, look for replays online.
Most top 200m runners slow down in the semis, but Lyles slowed down too much for how good the runners were . All 3 ran 19.99 so it's not like he made a terrible misjudgment
I mean, yes he put himself at risk, but you live and learn, and it only cost him one of those "favorable" lanes the commentators are always going on about. Quotation marks because as we've repeatedly seen, the best athlete can win from any lane.

Agreed. Huge change from 2019. Something is way off.
He messed up because now he has to run the final in lane 3. Don’t see he him making the podium tbh.
DeGrasse, Bednarek, and Knighton for top 3 spots.
Ridiculous - so stupid. Why would you let up with 5 meters to go in n a semi final? Especially when there are 2 guys right beside you. You are not Usain Bolt 10m clear of everyone. What.a.tool.

Yep. He's been in the sport a long time. He might be burning out.
What's up with the US men's sprinters this year? Particularly the favorites (Bromell, Norman, Lyles).... If you throw in Brazier not even making the team, what could have been a amazing Olympics for the US men seems pretty meh. Thank god for relays and the hurdlers.

Definitely wondering the same thing. Bromell crashes out, Norman didn't look too good and barely made it through, Lyles all year has been off besides the trials final. Brazier injured or miscalculated how Jewitt was going to run at trials. Kerley did good. He's 100% doing all this to build for a WR attempt at 400. Our only hope for gold was Benjamin who obliterated the WR just for it to be absolutely obliterated by Warholm. Looks like the 4x4 and 4x1 is what we may be taking gold in hopefully.
He didn't just let up, he was leaning backwards and braking with his last five steps. Do you really "save something for the final" by not at least striding in smoothly for five steps? Is it a psychological tactic for sprinters to make it look like they are not even trying in the heats?

Crouser is cruising' and Nilsen was amazing.Three U.S. men in 5K final and looking good in the 1500 with Centro and Hocker. M200 could sweep but Knighton is for sure the future of men's sprinting.
Looks like someone has to run 19.6 or better for Gold in my opinion.
Lyles doing that out of lane 3 seems unlikely.
Knighton (lane 5) De Grasse (lane 6) Bednarek (lane 7)
My gut is telling me De Grasse barely edging off Bednarek with Knighton and Lyles fighting for Bronze.
If Lyles had lane 9 I would have him favored as he prefers the outside lanes.

Yes, but on the track, relays excluded, the US men's best chance at gold is in the 110H at this point.

He slowed up but he is still a great runner. He will learn from the experience.
I've seen dumber things in my life than Olympic athletes jeorparding their positions by jogging in a tight heat, but not many dumber things. And they do it agan and again and again. And again.
