She's pushing the pace 2 hours in against a stacked field. Looks like she's holding back and isn't even sweating. There's a long way to go, but this is damn impressive. Regardless of what happens the rest of teh way, this performance is more impressive to me than anything by Flanagan, Desi, or Hall.

Wejo fully agree....as someone who works in the sport, I don't think A). any of us thought she was really one to be a contender to make the team, but B). medal at the Tokyo games?
Kudos. One of the most amazing runs by a US distance runner. Not quite Billy Mills, but awfully damn close!
Anybody know why she didn't draft the two leaders when she was right with them? She ran way over to the left side while the Kenyans were on the right side, with about 4 miles left.
Gotta wonder if she could have drafted herself to a silver.
But maybe the lateral distance gave her a mental boost, being over by herself and just focusing on herself.

On the NBC stream (the one with the Irish? and Australian? announcers), one of them said that she plays the guitar. I wonder if that was in a bio paragraph that the USOC or someone put out.

This type of post is what makes LetsRun rule. It didn't matter where she ran at this point. It was ridiculously hot. Getting to the finish no matter what is what mattered.
The left side of the course in that section had a little more shade because of shadows from the buildings. It wasn't a big difference, maybe a couple of extra shade seconds here or there, but it's as least as big a mental boost as a physical aid. Showed a lot of active course awareness deep into the closing 10K.

Like, I think wejo shouldn't like welch and like be a man and like pay up, like bust open that like trust fund and like quit being like such a greedy miser.
makes you wonder how much extra distance she ran by going sided to side in the shade. even just an extra 200m distance would have gotten her gold. then factor in drafting could have made a big difference too.
Did those extra seconds in shade make up for those sacrifices or could she have possibly won it? But she clearly surprised the hell out of us so who are we to second guess?
