She’s the weakest link
She's either tired from yesterday or her leg was slightly longer than 400m, athing Mu definitely had the strongest leg though.

they only time a 400 meter segment. baton is timed from line to line.

from blocks worth 49.25 with a running start. still not incredibly strong for her.
Here are the splits from the Olympics website
McLaughlin 50.2
Felix 49.2
Muhammad 48.94
Mu 48.32
All the Americans came first in their legs.
Felix was the only runner who had the shortest recovery time from their individual event along with being the oldest.

Splits were readjusted
50.21 McLaughlin
49.38 Felix
48.94 Muhammad
48.32 Mu
I would’ve thought McLaughlin could run close to a second faster. Everyone else met expectation. Jonathas might’ve been a better sub for Felix, but who’ll ever know.

I don't believe this is correct. that 50.2 is poland's time. We were leading at that point, correct? I think they timed the first leg from whichever team is in lane 1, because apparently they don't have the capability to get splits from the staggers.

Shaunae Miller-Uibo out of blocks (48.36) beats every runner in the relay from every team even with running start other than Mu who she barely loses to
maybe im wrong on that. but were we seriously behind Poland? I don't recall that.

I can't believe those times. I hand timed:
McLaughlin 49.97t
Felix 49.31
Muhammad 49.02
Mu 48.53 total 3:16.83
So I know I'm off, but not 2 tenths off. The place slipped was an early lap time on Felix to Muhammed so I expect Muhammed was under 49.
Whatever is reporting McLaughlin's time clearly didn't use the correct mark. Gotta be midway in the exchange zone which is marked on the track.

She's also the most experienced 4x400 relay runner on that team. The coaches put her on the leg to take a handoff, run the break to the rail, and make a handoff. McLaughlin and Muhammad have been focused exclusively on their hurdles event for a couple of years. Mu had the fastest open 400 time in the world prior to the Olympics. She belonged in the anchor spot. Felix was the right person in the right spot for that relay.
it is definitely incorrect. went back to video, we get through the middle of the relay zone a step before poland, yet they are credited as faster than us.

Pretty sure she's a sprinter and not a thrower. Too small to throw far - short limbs.
There is a line that acts as the plane for the first leg split, which marks the end/beginning of the 1st and 2nd leg. It doubles as a starting line for another race.
Athing mu is absolutely amazing
I would love to know how they are getting the split for the first leg. odd that it changed like that. often with 4x400 splits, they give the first two splits combined because they can't get a time at the line off the first leg.

The first leg splits have been bizarre. In the men’s relay, they timed Makwala at 43.6 on the the lead, Cherry was supposedly right behind him with a 43.9.
