Mark it Donny!
The Olympic 1500m record of 3:32.07 will fall in the Semis.
Too many fast guys knowing they cant all make the final.

Not a bad predict. I like it.
You are banking on McSweyn to do this I suppose? All of the other fast guys (including Tim and Jakob) have historically trusted their kicks.
You’d think that would be the case, but it never is. Every gunfighter thinks they’ve got the fastest gun.

You're prediction is logical, but it won't happen. There have always been runners that would have a better chance of making the final off of a fast pace, but they fear the humiliation of being passed by the field during the last lap.

You missed the point... TOO many gunfighters that know they might not make the finale unless it is a blistering TT
you watch, these will be the most stacked semis in history.
I agree.
Someone big is also going to miss the final. Both semis will be blazing fast.

eh... are you forgetting how many sub 3:31 guys are in this deal this year?
mark it donny....
McSweyn wont medal. Keep this post and throw it in my face when I am wrong.
Unless the heat melts them... or they wither in the call rooms
I don't doubt that there is the ability, but it's the will. There are only two semis. I suspect the one that has Tim in it will follow his lead. That means a 3:35-3:39 type race for me. I think he's content to bring it through steady until 600 and methodically hold the lead. Now the other semi would need McSweyn or Tefera to determine that they have to make it honest to win. And the rest of the field would have to take them seriously. I don't think any of the other sub-3:32 guys would consider taking it hard from the gun.
Interesting.
You think there will be runners so worried about finishing top 5 in their heat that they will front run to go 3:31 and hope for top 7 in order to make the finals.
It’s possible.
I think if someone went out in 1:52 the rest would ignore him and worry about conserving their energy and fighting for the other spots if that person gets away.

"We shall see" - Louis XIV
IMO which is worth a grain of sand in a desert... too many guys know they can plop a sub 3:33 but cant plop a sub 50 last quarter.
Anybody can do opposition research and see that they wont make it in a kickers race... against some of these guys...so they will put their chances on suffering to take the kicks away.
15 this go round is about making the final, the semis will be the real races.
could be wrong... doubt it.
Even Centro seems aware it will be blistering, hence his tt "practice".
You might be right. A lot of runners who can run 3.32. And so many good 800 runners. Some of the best will not even make it to the Semis. Example. Robert Farken is a 3,34 runner with 1.45.80. Some days ago he ran 2.15.81 at 1000. Depending on how it plays out he might even get to the Final - he is ready to run much faster than his 3.34.

There were guys in Rio with no chance of kicking for a medal but they still didn't want to take the lead.

Yes. If Stewart McSweyn (3:29 guy) loses to Jye Edwards doing this tactic, what makes us so sure he's not worried a bunch of similarly talented guys in the semis can't get him in the final 100 in the Semis. Being the one to push it from the front is a risky move and you better be sure you can execute it.

No, I didn’t miss the point at all. Have just watched track and field for 30+ years.
What you say makes sense, but it’s sh ways weird how it typically doesn’t happen that way.
This is a compelling prediction. And it would certainly make things interesting in the final.
My sense, for whatever it's worth, is that when it comes to semi's, the most valuable metric is not last 400m but last 800m. The ability to close in 1:50 is a must, whether that's 57/53, 58/52, or 55/55.

well, I have been wiping my a$$ for four decades but still know each time requires different number of squares...
however... when its diarhea and fast running every time... grab the whole roll and hold on tight.
Mark my words, one of the semis will have 4-5 guys break that Oly rec.

Can we get some crayons and a menu for this guy to colour in, please?
