Sweden's Andreas Almgren closed in 2:21.2 and didn't even medal. In the women's race, Ireland's Sarah Healy outkicked Britain's Melissa Courtney-Bryant in the 3k 8:52.86-8:52.92. In the men's 800, the Netherlands Samuel Chapple delighted the home fans by edging Belgium's Elliott Crestan for 800m gold with a 1:44.88 NR as Poland's Anna Wilgosz won the women's race in 2:02.09.

Already in 2025, Ruthe has set a world record for the fastest 1500 (3:41.25), mile (4:01.72) and 3000 (7:56.18) ever run by someone at the age of 15 (he turns 16 on April 12). That being said, Ruthe tying his training mate Tanner is a shock as Tanner ran 3:51 in the mile for the win at BU on February 21 and has a 3:31 1500 pb from 2023. Race video embedded above.

WA announced today that San Diego will no longer host the World Running Champs. Ken Stone is reporting in the Times of San Diego that the event was moved despite there reportedly being a $3 million title sponsor. We believe race registrations were nowhere near what they were expecting but feel that easily could have been fixed. With 1 week notice, easily 10,000 people would have signed up if they had known this was a possibility.

This is a stunning development for a championship but the lights will be off for the first 1/3rd of the race.

It was a great morning for Amy and Alistair Cragg's Puma Elite Distance squad as their two Oklahoma State grads got the wins in races where spots at Worlds in San Diego were on the line. American record holder Weini Kelati had the lead early but stunning faded to 6th (69:07) while Olympians Joe Klecker (8th - 61:34), Clayton Young (13th - 62:38) and Dakotah Popehn (10th - 69:57) weren't close to making the teams.

Ethiopians Tadese Takele (2:03:23 pb), who ran 8:09 in the steeple at age 18, and Kebede (2:16:31) were the champions on Sunday while Joshua Chpetegei (9th in 2:05:59) struggled again in marathon #2.

It's a wild weekend for distance fans. In Tokyo, LRC's top two men's marathoners of 2024, Benson Kipruto and Deresa Geleta, take on 5k/10k WR holder Joshua Cheptegei. Plus there are Team USA spots for the World Half on the line in Atlanta where five male Olympians will seek 3 spots and the last BU meet of the year is on Sunday as well. And it's conference championship weekend at the NCAA level where 25 sub-4 milers will compete at the Big 10 meet

Is A Sub-4 Women's Mile Just Around The Corner?

Hoey now trails only Wilson Kipketer (1:42.67) on the world all-time list indoors at 800m as Kessler put on a front-running masterclass to win the 1500m after claiming the 3000m on Saturday.
Akins and Hiltz won indoor titles in the 800 and 1500 on Sunday after winning the same events at the 2024 Olympic Trials. In the women's sprints, Alexis Holmes (50.51) dominated the 400 and Celera Barnes (7.11) upset Jacious Sears in the 60.

Barega Goes For It In His Debut
(link fixed) The 2021 Olympic 10,000 champ went out in 14:18 (2:00:40 pace) and was still on 2:03 flat pace at 35k before holding on for the win. Compatriot Anchinalu Dessie won the women's race in 2:22:17 in her debut as well.

Kessler beat Jacobs, 7:38.00 to 7:38.02, in a sensational last-lap duel as Sam Gilman (7:38.64) was a surprising 3rd. Grant Holloway improved to 69-0 in the 60m hurdles while former DII star Wes Ferguson impressed in the 800 prelims.
Hiltz edged Houlihan just before the line to win a great race, while Houlihan is heading back to World Indoors in her first year back from a doping ban.

Bekele joins a field that includes Eliud Kipchoge, Jacob Kiplimo, defending champ Alex Mutiso, Olympic champ Tamirat Tola and Sabastian Sawe (2:02:05). Bekele ran 2:04:15 for 2nd place in London last year.

This was a run for the ages and the splits are astounding. 40:07 for 15k, a 10k split as fast as Grant Fisher's PB.
