We changed the title as the origional title had a typo and made no sense. It was titled, "Strand EMBARRASSES Matein". Here are the results for the race: https://flashresults.com/2025_...
Sat on Gary for the last ~10 laps and then puts 4 seconds on him in the last 200m, 26.8 close with his foot off the gas in the last 80m. He will win whatever race he runs at NCAAs.

I never heard of the guy who was supposedly embarrassed. There is much embarrassment to go around.
Could Strand get the mile-3k-5k triple at indoor nationals? I don't know if he's entered in the 5k but I think he probably stands a better chance at getting all 3 than anyone since Ches.

No he is not good enough for the triple. That is beyond him at this time. I am not even sure that Hobbs Kessler could win all 3, but maybe he could.
Was there any word as to why Martin and Strand were running the 3k/5k double instead of some combo of the mile, 3k, and DMR? Last year, Wolfe won the mile and 3k ahead of his 3k/5k at Nationals.
Nobody “embarrassed” anyone. One really good guy beat another really good guy that lead the whole time. Your title reads like a Fox News headline. Show some class

The problem isn’t with Gary. It’s with his coach. Lananna was trying to get Stand DQ’d but his multiple attempts failed. I think everyone likes Gary, but dislikes Lananna.

Vin Lananna is a walking stress case. This man needs to relax. He’s in his mid 70’s and going to give himself a heat attack or a stroke if he’s not carful. I feel bad for him sometimes but he honestly does it to himself. He thinks he’s above everyone and any kind of rules.

Kessler probably couldn't beat Strand in a 3 or 5 right now, let alone pull off a triple.

thanks for the vote downs, but strand closed his 7:30 3000 in 54.4. He would absolute demolish Kessler there. And since kessler is more speed based, that doesn't bode well moving up to the 5000.
Yikes. I’ve heard this thru the years but never knew if it was the typical trash talk or if there was some truth and I’m picking up on the vibe that there might be some truth lol.

I’m replying to the guy who said the thing about Vin a few posts up. Forgot to quote them.
Gary Martin's doing just fine. He's pr'd by 7.3s in the mile this year and ran a 7:36 3k with a hs pr, according to World Athletics (not always the most reliable source), of 9:02. Strand just ran a 10s pr to win this in 13:26. It would be interesting to see what he can run outdoors in the 5. You would think it would be sub-13 or close. But he should not consider a triple. That's a good way to get injured.

Strand is a long way away from having a qualifier for the 5000...24th as we speak (23rd w/o Blanks)

Why is this getting so many downvotes? Kessler ran 7:35 tying up at the end. Strand ran 7:30 with a monster close. I agree that Strand would likely beat Kessler in the 3 and probably the 5 as well. Why do people think otherwise?
Strand is better than Gary Martin right now. Martin has run:
7:36 3K
3:54.x getting beat by Langon and Murphy at Penn
3:48.x Mile
3:50.x anchor on 9:14 DMR
13:30 5K
Strand ran the faster mile,3:48.x lower the faster DMR anchor at 3:49.x faster 3K by almost 6 secs and now 4 in a PR 13:26
In any other year Martin would be performer of the year so far in MD/Dist. But he is not, Strand is. The range for both from Mile to 5K are great. I wonder if Rocky Hansen will run from the front in the mid 7:30's in 3K at ACC. To go with his wild DMR winning anchor and 13:14 from the front 5K?

ya im kind of blown away by the though process here, along with all the people who would vote up a comment saying Kessler might be able to win the NCAA triple.
This place is usually a little smarter than that.
The 7:38 that Kessler won last week, BY THE SKIN OF HIS TEETH, was closed almost a full second slower than Strand's 7:30. 54.4 to 55.3
And i wasn't rude about it. I said Kessler PROBABLY wouldn't. that's based on numbers that are out there in the world. Im not even close to saying he CAN'T beat him.

The mistake here is thinking the Let’s Run crowd will take a Fox News comparison as anything but a compliment.
