I think he is just doing this for fun, and he doesn't care if it's profitable or not.

What do the athletes care if it's in mid Oct. Hell, it could be on Thanksgiving Day and they'll roll off the couch and show for a free pay day anytime. They could run average Joe times and it doesn't matter. And Alexis is cutting the check regardless? Sounds like a no brainer.

That's certainly not what Alexis Ohanian has been saying. He has consistently said he thinks there is an opportunity to make money down the line because women's sports are becoming more popular.

Objectively untrue. I'm not saying he's forcing it or it's for show, he truly is a feminist, as am I and anyone who believes in equal rights for women but he's married to Serena, has 2 daughters and believes that women's sports should be on equal footing to men's. If he can turn a profit on that then that's great, but you certainly do not believe that if he listed his motivations for this meet in order, profit would be at the top.

He's a good dude; good for women's sports and good for track & field as a whole.

Nice pay day post worlds, but still close enough for recovery while maintaining fitness. Low key/fun enough with real money to keep it competitive. Seems a win/win.

I spent some time looking at weather averages in NYC for October 10th. Looks like only 4 degrees cooler than last year. The expected temp for 7:30 pm on October 10th is about 62. Only 10% of the time is it below 52.

Oh give me a break. He is just doing this because he's married to Serena Williams. Do you think he's going to say "I'm just doing this because my wife was a great athlete. I don't think I'll ever make any money on a women's track meet"? Of course he's not going to say that because his wife would get mad. Can you imagine what his life would be like with a pissed off Serena Williams in his house?

He is rich enough to flush millions of dollars down the toilet on a passion project. No matter what he says publicly, he's not really expecting to make a profit.

I'm happy for the women athletes that get paid well from this meet. Good for them. But let's call it what it really is - it's charity.

Do you guys realize that Ohanian invested in a women's soccer team and made a bunch of money when Bob Iger bought controlling interest of the club and it was valued at $250 million last year?

Will Athlos ever be profitable? If I had to guess, no. But Ohanian just made a bunch of money in women's soccer and women's basketball is the most popular it's ever been. He's hoping women's track can make a similar jump.

From an advertisement standpoint, I do think women's running has more potential than men's. Athletes like Gabby Thomas - top runners / basically a model - are very marketable and can help sells not only shoes but workout gear, make up, casual wear... On and on.

Based on past meetings it likely will be a Class E with 1.000 to 3,000 seats sold just like LAGP. BU i ndoors, 2022 WC Eugene, 2024 Eugene OT, etc. Americans are just not sitters as Europeans, Chinese, Mooroccans, Qatarese are.
