LRC note: This thread was started before the men's 3000s and 4 x 400s were run. It had the title of "So the Big 10 men's meet might come down to the 4 x 400 and Oregon only has 1 guy on the team who has run a 400 this year". The meet ended up coming down to the 4 x 400. Oregon ran in a heat all by themselves and ran like they had no 400 runners as they ran just 3:25. If USC finished 1st or 2nd, they'd win the meet. They finished 2nd but were DQd handing Oregon the title. A full video of the race is listed below in post #11.
I was looking at the Big 10 mile results and then noticed the men's team score is quite tight.
Oregon trails USC By 2.5 with 2 events left - the 3000 and 4 x 400. Oregon is obviously stronger than USC in the 3000, but I was wondering how they stack up in the 4 x 400. USC is #1 in the conference at 3:04. Oregon is last in the conference at 3:19. And then this stunned me - only one guy on Oregon has run a 400 all season long.
Aren't these soon to be roster limits in the future going to be grand? I get it. In an 18 team conference, there is no reason to be balanced and have every event covered as unless you are exceptional at something, you aren't scoring many points.
