He ran nearly 2:03 from 1200 to 400 to go whereas Jakob ran 1:58.5. It was also won in a time 6s slower than the race in Nanjing. Could Strand have run with Ky/Gilman for bronze, certainly possible

Good point. given strand is a 730 guy (slightly faster PB than Ky), I think he would have been 3rd
No one on the planet is beating Jakob in a 3k. His finish wasn’t super impressive by his own standards, but it didn’t have to be. Look at his splits from that 7:23 he ran in Eugene if you’re not convinced he would’ve destroyed the likes of Kerr, Hocker, etc. had any of them raced today.

I think he wins, but citing a race where he won by .01 versus Yomif is not your best evidence.

Really? He front ran 3:43 the day before, led most of the 3k, and closed in 25.8 to win. The only thing that might be better evidence for him being unbeatable is 7:17.55.
Incredibly disingenuous post from you dude. He only won by .01 so clearly none of the other factors matter lol what a joke!

We’re talking about him doubling back today too. I think he is unbeatable fresh too, but then and here he was not.

He barely beat Katir in 2023. A drugged up, revenge fueled Katir in 2028 (even at 29/30) is a gold medal threat in the 5000- Farah won at 32.

Well he won today so what more do you want? Saying there are other runners who could’ve closed the way he did doesn’t mean anything because they weren’t in the race. It’s pretty obvious he would’ve run differently if they were.

I agree but that was the premise of this thread topic, and to say he would “destroy” Hocker/Fisher/Kerr doubling back in an unpaced 3,000 doesnt square with what happened today. In a 5,000 for Hocker and Kerr yes. In a balls-to-the-wall 3,000 yes Fisher is probably 7:20-21 outdoors. But in an indoor 3k with an extra race? It’s close like today.

Absolutely not. Jakob is a championship racing savant. Strand is a future superstar who can win a a lot of indoor medals in the 3,000 because that might be his best event and a lot of runners do not contest the indoor championships.
Stupid question, who cares if he would have won if he'd run, he didn't.
The college outdoor season has already started. His first commitment is to UNC. It wouldn’t have made sense for him to run at USATF or make the trip to China.

Agree it was a hypothetical
I firmly believe he would have been 3rd. He’s faster over the mile and 3k than Ky, and can kick 25 for his last 200
