wouldn't happen. you have to realize the difference in how final laps are effected by whether the race picks up with 1600, 1200, 800, 600, 400, or 200 left.
There are a handful of runners from NCAA who I think could’ve run that. Ethan Strand, Gary Martin, Adam Spencer. Brian Musau split a 25 200m last split in a 13:10 5k, that’s the 5k not the 3k, but still

Unfortunately people here have said that the American lads simply can't afford to travel to China, so they have to prioritize the GST instead. Maybe Kerr can afford the plane ticket if he sells his Cybertruck that starts at $80 000.
in a 7:40-50 race, they all would've run a 25-low last 200m, possibly a sub-25 for Hocker and that would be enough to decimate the field today.
The race would’ve set up well for Hocker. I don’t see why Fisher would’ve fared any better than Aregawi…they are evenly matched and their playbook would’ve been the exact same (and if anything Aregawi’s speed/gears seemed a bit above Fishers today). Kerr has been banged up/sick so that’s an odd hypothetical.

Oh yeah totally fair. Jakob deserves all the credit for showing up and doing the double. With Aregawi it was a real test. Aregawi has figured out championship racing and he’s always had the engine and gear shift.

lol he split a 25.8 on the back half of a 55 second final 400. which came off of a 62 second previous 400. YAWN
again. you need to look at the last 600-1600. anybody good runner can run a 25 coming off a bunch of 30-32s
the honest truth is that today was a good, solid win for Jakob. It certainly wasn't impressive by his own standards. What he did at Euros was much more impressive. 2:19 FLAT for the final 1000/3:34 for the final 1500 is a pace any of them would have needed to be at their very best to even have a chance to sniff him.

Has Aregawi always had the gear shift? I don't recall having seen it before he kicked past about five runners including Grant Fisher in the last 100 m of the Olympic 10,000 m Final in Paris to take the silver medal.

But Jakob would not have allowed it to go that slow if there had been so many top guys in the field. As it was, he just had to watch the Ethiopians. Everyone else was B-Team, so Jakob used "slow" tactics.
Would you have recommended he run world record pace?
Has Joshua Cheptegei ever beaten Bryce Hoppel in a race? Using people’s logic that if you don’t show up it doesn’t matter, Fisher’s 10,000 medal in an even Jakob has never ran on the track makes this question a little silly.
