Hocker ran the last 400m in 52 sec in the Olympic trial, and that's a 3:30 race.
Indoors isn’t as fast. And Jakob pulled away over the last 50m.
so Hocker could've run around 7:20 in the 3k, had he run it indoors a few weeks ago?
Anyway, I just don't think we can take anything from this race as a sign he has a kick that's good enough to match his main rivals (i.e: Hocker, Kerr).
That said, I would add that Jakob already demonstrated his kick 2 years ago, when he ran a 51 final lap in the WC semi (a 3:34 race). That's good enough to hang with anyone.
I’ll be honest, if Geordie beamish was in that race, Jakob would’ve been cooked.
I be honest: if Geordie Beamish had been in that race, he’d have run the race’s fastest last 400m to fight for a 6th place finish, all while wearing a black jogging hat.
Did someone say Jakob just does not have much of a kick? He's on cruise control and is going to break some WR this year.
Honestly for Jakob’s calibre that’s not that insane. Hocker and Nuguse closed their ncaa 1500 in 1:48, with a 52 last lap when Hocker was 19 and they were only 3:31-3:34 guys.
Jakob has good finishing speed don’t get me wrong and it’s very early on in the year, but in truly tactical race (3:35 and up) he’d need at least a 1:49, 52, 25 type close to hold off the three guys who beat him at the Olympics
Hocker really displayed how savage his kick is when a 3:35 runner outsprinted him in the last stretch of the 3000
based and hocker doesnt have a kick bc he got outkicked in a WR race pilled
Idk Jakob had a perfectly fine race, but I don't think it's anything special for him, nor would it be special from Hocker or Nuguse. When Nuguse ran 3:47.38i in 2023, he closed in 54/25.94.
Not saying he's not great, just saying this doesn't move the needle at all on his kick or fitness or anything. Not that that should be very surprising since he just broke the 1500m WR en route, and everyone else in this race is a level below the guys who are a level below Jakob.

Another data point is in the 2021 Trials, Hocker closed a faster race (3:35.06) in 38.64 with a 12.20 last 100. Today Jakobs last 300 was 39.56.
I thought the "Jakob has no kick" discourse died a while back when he kept on winning the global championship 5,000 in dominant fashion over the final lap

I think when people talk about Jakob having no kick, they mean it in the context of 1500 racing.
Anyway, although this race shows nothing of note coming from a runner of his calibre, I believe he does have a kick even in a moderately paced races just as the 2023WC Semi I mentioned. It's just that it in no way guarantees him a win/makes him head and shoulders above anyone else (that's why he chose to front run last year even though it didn't work out) because there're at least 3 people that could possibly do that as well (that's why he chose to front run last year even though it didn't work out).

If Mirus Yifter had run some 1500ms, would he no longer have been called the “shifter”.
