I think there's a possibility Hocker sets the wr. Hocker only lost to Fisher by .2 in the 3k. Fisher is definitely better at the 5k right now, but hocker will likely have teare with him until at least 4.2k which will make a huge difference. Fisher was alone for 3k. There's a chance.
I just don't see hocker having it in him to get near the record. he's at least 3 seconds faster than fisher in a 1500, and already lost that speed advantage to him by 3000. the strength decay compared to fisher should be even greater going up to 5000.
but they run the races for a reason. just trying to see this logically.

to add to what the previous poster's thoughts about hocker having a little bit of an advantage because of Teare, Teare never even stuck his nose into the 3000 at millrose. by 1200 meters, he was already 1.5 back. And also, how often have we seen Hocker lead a race? I've probably missed some stuff, but seems he is usually the guy tucked into the rail behind 1 or 2 or 5 guys.
I'm going with Hocker at 12:49 - 12:51, with an absolute ceiling at 12:47.
I think Hocker is better than Teare now, but in the past, Teare has been faster at 5000 by a few seconds.
Secretly hoping that Teare shocks the world and breaks Grant's WR but that is a very low probability. But it would be very unexpected and exciting.
Still wondering when Teare moves to the steeplechase. It's a bad time to be a good 1500m runner in the USA, and I think the 5000m is leveling up huge this year. I feel like this is a make or break race for Teare's prospects going forward. The 1500m is already closed to him. I wonder if maybe he should try the 10000m.

It wouldn’t shock me at all if he broke it. But it would require perfect pacing which is very difficult with no pacing lights.

Just like any other runner with at least Teare’s talent at 1500/5000m, he’ll probably never move to the Steeple.
I'm thinking 12:52/12:53 edge to Teare but it could go either way. Teare just ran 7:30 with a quick finish, has a 12:54 pb to his name, and according to Hocker is in great shape. He seemed disappointed by his 3k, so I think he'll come back with a better 5k. I also don't think Hocker is ready for a sub-12:50. As great as his 3k was, it'd be a 10s pb, and 2 weeks ago would've been an AR.
Nordas mentioned that he wasnt in sub 13 shape in his last race, so i believe he said that the probability of him running sub 13 in this one is around 50%
Hocker runs 12:53 and teare runs 13:01 after blowing up at 4k trying to keep up
Hockers 3k was astounding but we need to remember that he is a great 1500 guy who can run the 800 and 3k very well, we haven’t really seen anything to prove that he can keep up with grant beyond 2 miles

there have most certainly been far better 1500/5000 talents than teare in the steeple. Girma's the easiest one to start with. Even a prime Jager put into super shoes/spikes has a strong chance of producing better times.
I think Hocker can definitely break the WR, if he goes after it. I think some of you are forgetting that Grant already had a race in him before that 3k, while it was Hocker's opener. That makes a big difference. The fact that Hocker could open up like that means he is in even better shape than Grant. But there is a good chance they are only trying to hit the standard for Worlds.
