Who would have thought Josh Hoey would be the world indoor champ this year. He is almost a lock. Also will likely break the outdoor AR and could end up outdoor world champ as well. He is having the inverse career of Donovan Brazier. Extremely fun to watch.

Why did he lag during college? Injuries? I remember hearing the name in high school, then nothing at that level during college, and now he's soloing a low 1:43 indoors. It seems crazy that he's suddenly running a low 1:43, but if you said in high school when he was running 1:46 that he'd run 1:43 several years later it wouldn't be crazy.
But more than one guy has run 1:46 in HS and never progressed after that. Which was the trajectory Hoey was on. So that wouldn't necessarily be surprising either.
Notice how not one of his competitors congratulated him post-race. They all know that he is fishy
I did notice that, but I don't think he's dirty. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. He seems like a hard-working guy. I do wonder why people think he is dirty.

The speculation is because he's one of the fastest in the world right now after doing nothing for several years. He was a consistent 1:47/1:48 guy from 2018-early 2024. Then suddenly last summer he became a 1:43 guy and now ran 1:43 a couple times this year. Twelve months ago his PR was 1:47. He's 25 years old so he's not really exactly at the age where you make natural jumps in the 800m.

This one’s really a toss up for me.
A training program that doesn’t work for you vs one that does can easily be worth 4-5 seconds in the 800m. Imagine making Brazier run 50-60 mpw, or making Nick Symmonds do 10-15 mpw 400/800 training. I think it’s pretty easy to assume you are training someone well if they are running 1:47-1:48 and have never run faster in the past.
I know a guy who was stuck in the 1:55-1:56 range, transferred to a different program, ran 1:53 his first race there and was running 1:47 by the end of the season. He had a switch up from 50-60 mpw 800/1500 type training to 25-35 mpw pure 800m type training.
On the other hand, 1:47-1:48 to 1:43 in one season is pretty crazy regardless of the circumstances.
I really wouldn’t be surprised whether he is doping or isn’t doping.
