Seriously? Yared is gonna run 3:44. He's the absolute last person who I thought would do something like this, and must be the most confident he has ever been in his fitness to go for a world record like this.
That is a tough world record now. I love that he's going after this. Usually, the lion gets them and there's no more fight in them. Jakob crushed that new world record. I hope Yared really gets after it. 3:44 indoors would be something else even for a guy with a 3:43.97 outdoors, as he was able to draft the whole way behind a 3:43.76.

If he gets it, would Jakob try to take it back?
Surely he would. There’s no way he allows one of his biggest rivals to take a world record from him without a fight.
Yes seriously right before they announced it they were like "Should we say the unannounced person? I'm sure he'll be announced by the time this episode drops" lmao
They said he wants 3:44. I think you're right, no way he'd go all the way to BU last minute unless he was supremely confident in his fitness. Olli said he's gonna sit on Yared and dip at the 1500m split lol

Side note - last week Coffee Club podcast (which I rarely listen to) had the funniest segment ever. When they described their UK based listener talking to Jakob and telling him that he doesn't like Josh Kerr despite being from the UK -- Jakob: "Nobody does"
Absolutely hilarious. Almost fell off the treadmill.
I think it's a tough ask. The benefits though are of course it's BU (with WAVELIGHTS for the first time) which is huge. However, Yared looked pretty much maxed out running 3:46.6 in Millrose, which already had a redone track, with competition chasing him and the pacing was also pretty good (to 1000m). Is Mario Garcia pacing him to 1200m? That might help a lot. I'll say that he just misses it. These guys will go after it again next year anyways lol. Also, the record outdoors matters the most anyways.

Jakob crushed it but his focus was on getting 1500 en route. If that wasn’t the case it would be untouchable now for Yared but this is right in the edge of doable. We’ll see how much faster BU is if anything and what a lack of crowd and competition does if anything .

this was my thinking. Jakob had almost two seconds on Nuguse at 1500m, (3:29.61 vs 3:31.75) but he slowed down significantly from 1500m to 1609m. That gap closed to 1.5 seconds. I really don’t see how Nuguse can find the fitness needed to improve this much in a few weeks. Especially with Grand Slam soon. The extra time will come from better pacing and the BU effect. I hardly see the wavelights as an improvement either. If you look at Nuguse’s splits in Millrose, they were very consistent, and his close wasn’t really all that fast. It was purely a fitness issue. We’ll see how he does.

I bet there will be some buzz in that building Sunday. You have Yared, Blanks, Nico, Ky Robisnson, etcSam Gilman trying to get the 3k standard for China. Should be a good day at BU.

Jakob ran 3:43.73, not 3:43.76, which is me nitpicking and not the reason I am replying to you. Yeah I would say that the odds are against Nuguse, but then the Boston indoor may be up to 1.5 seconds faster than the Eugene track. So IF Nuguse is in shape to run 3:46.5 at Eugene, there is a chance he can run 3:45 flat in Boston, although because of not having a rabbit the entire way, maybe we could say Goose would have to be in 3:46 flat shape or so at Eugene to run 3:45 at Boston. It is not impossible by any means.
Yes, odds are definitely against Nuguse. Hard to imagine him running a 3:44 without it affecting his progress the rest of the year. I don’t know if his team would put that sort of effort into this attempt.
That being said, it’s really cool to see Nuguse be aggressive in “defending” his world record title. A sub 3:46 would show he’s right on Jakobs heels. Anything faster and he may be right with him.
I hope Nuguse breaks the record. Then that might entice Jakob enough to fly out to BU next indoor season and wrack up all the indoor world records over successive weekends. No world champs next year, why not have some fun?

He’s got a pacer for 1200 (his teammate) and wave lights. I think he’s got a good chance
