Sydney marathon becomes world's 7th "major"

I can hear the crying from the people who got their "6-Star Medal" today at NYC.

Breaking news, Americans believe they are the centre of the world yet again. Can't be a major series if half the races are in Murica.

Add more races to the series or delete NYC marathon. Choose one.

It won't be a 7th major in my book until I see Kofuzi and Believe in the Run complete it while hosting 2000 people shake-out runs

Maybe they are going for continent equity, starting with the West first of course.

Sydney had better revise their course. And as for CapeTown, this year they denied many elites wanting 'only 2:06 guys' to prove they should a WMM. They had 2 under 2:09 and 5th was under 2:13. They hired some joke of a group to bring in their elite field. They are far from being a WMM. There's at least 10 races that should be accepted by CapeTown, but I see that WMM want an event on each major continent.

Kofuzi is already in talks with Asics to work together for a bib.

Ask your tri friends about the period of time that Dalian Wanda Group was ownership of Ironman. How has qualifying for that series changed? Is the series better? How is this group now involved with WMM? Actually, who is Wanda? What is the scheme for age-group world championships at WMM events? What does this have to do with the RocknRoll series?

There's always Europeans or Americans whinging when anything important dares to exist outside Europe and North America.

They really think that people will travel all the way to Sydney?

If Sydney want to be a major, they should have to relocate their city or event much closer to us in the US. They want to play with the big boys? They need to bring their event to the big boys. Not make us go to them.

It's for people who live in that area already who don't want a 12 hour flight to participate in a WMM

Maybe the Americans won't but it's not like that'll make the field weaker.

really? I’ve run Berlin and Boston and the course and atmosphere are 100 times better. The elite race is better and the organisation is better too. Sydney isn’t anywhere near the same level.

The word "major" has less meaning than McD's "grade a beef" which as i was told was the name of the company that sells their "beef".

Brilliant move by Abbot. Adding Tokyo a few years ago and realizing the potential for tons of extra money. It's a win, win for the marathons, getting users, and Abbot whom I'm assuming charges the marathons a shi.tton to use "WMM" as a marketing label.

Now they can add something to affluent runners to collect every few years and keep it up til we have 20 majors.

WMM is a money making scheme set up for hobby joggers. who cares.

the platinum label from WA is all that matters.
