I don't see how they'll do a 10,000m event better than The Ten does five weeks before in the same geographic area. Doesn't make sense, aside from giving an extra chance to get a USA qualifying time for second tier athletes.

Where in the hell have these two self promoters been hiding? THE TEN and Sound Running have rejuvenated the 10k a few years back.
Please list the pro events that Des and Kara have put on in the past?

You all sound so bitter when Kara and Des are just trying to help the sport. The Ten/Sound Running is the only important 10K this year for chasing the standard. The Night of 10,000 PB's is not happening this year. With Kara's broadcasting/announcing background as of late, she has made it clear that this event is on a trajectory of being phased out. It's no longer run at diamond league, it's not included in Grand Slam, etc. I commend them for trying to help people get the standard and drive more interest in the 10K on the track.
I think that Des and Kara are about to find out just how unpopular they are amongst current pros. I will bet that they will have zero women under 31 minutes or men under 28 minutes. Their current popularity is limited to creepy men that find Kara attractive and soccer moms.
Yes, how awful of them to put on a 10,000m race with pacers for both the world championships and US championships standards. Also a combined prize purse of $25,000. This is clearly a terrible thing for the sport and they're both awful people.

I think this is great. I'm old enough to remember when there were quite a few 10,000's around the country and in Europe.
Even the Penn Relays had a 10,000 on the first night that was big at least for northeast runners.
Good for them for doing this.
I really like this idea, but I agree there is some overlap with the Ten. I think finding another place on the calendar for future years could be beneficial. There's always some fast 10k's in November/December ish for Japan, NZ, Australia.
I think a lot of pro's wouldn't mind an early Winter 10k coming off of a fall base building period that doesn't make them choose between running the Ten vs World Indoors but also doesn't disrupt their spring buildup to USA's
