What in the world has happened to my glorious king yaseen abdallah? He was one of the favorites in the 5000 and nearly got lapped. Anyone have any idea what hat happened?
bombed intentionally so he can make a youtube video about failure and the power of believing in yourself in the face of adversity blah blah blah
I can see the clickbait title now "I GOT LAPPED..."
Clown take shttalkkng a guy who's run faster and worked harder than you ever will. Come back to us when you can make top 5 at xc nattys or even qualify to the olys
Assuming he knew he was smoked and salvaged what he could for the 3k. We shall see.
The last year has been crazy for him- new team, track nationals, olympic marathon, cross, and now indoors. I don't care how well you take care of yourself, that's a lot of built up fatigue.
He may have the most range of any NCAA guy out there right now. He could be competitive from 10k--> 1500 and then go run 2:11 on arguably the hardest marathon course ever. Love him or hate him, he's an interesting cat
I mean they were running pretty fast up front, and if he's dealt with sickness this season (like many athletes have), he could have just gone past the red line earlier than he wanted. Not a huge fan of the guy, but look at nearly any big race and this usually happens to someone.
Don’t know about him specifically but, very hard to time peaking for a championship race when getting the time qualification is so hard. To me you almost have to peak earlier in training and hope it carries over.
Sure, but how many weekends indoors does this guy have with his team? Most people want to go out with a bang.
It doesn't matter. Everyone wants to go out with a bang.
Quit scouring the results every meet so that you can find the guy who had a bad day just to ridicule. Its a very small and cowardly way. No one will ever respect you for it.
I find his videos interesting. There are times when he comes across extremely confident, but I don't recall him belittling others. He's refreshingly honest in talking through his failures. I saw the video of the 5k and watched the 3k live. In both races you could see something wasn't right with him. I am looking forward to his race analysis.

Unfortunately that is the main purpose for some posting on this message board.
I saw a comment on one of his videos that he’s been intentionally cutting weight for this indoor season, which could explain the performances. He definitely didn’t need to lose any weight, so that would make me sad if true
I think there’s a chance he’s fasting for Ramadan.
If so, (and I’m only speculating here) it would mean he was technically only able to eat/ drink ~1 hour before the 5k, which probably isn’t too helpful after fasting all day. And then he’d have gone 10 hours without food or water before the 3k.
It is just an example of a guy peaking too early in the indoor season. Had an amazing finish to cross and he probably didn't take any time off and just keep training. Eventually the body fails.
Hopefully he can rest for a few weeks then come back strong outdoors. Maybe a bit later in the season, he might can get a 5k or 10k worlds time for Sudan.
Yaseen said in his interview on youtube that he was definitely going hard with the marathon, cross, and indoors all in quick succession and that got him tired. Hopefully he can get a pro contract or something and get a good race in a few months after some rest.
