Freshman Natasza Dudek, who finished one spot ahead of her in 10:13.71, is no slouch either.
Mackenzie ran from and won the slower heat. Natasza Dudek was in the hot heat. Wonder what Skelly would have done if in fastest heat?? Her time landed her 6th overall.

Yes, that sister did reasonably well at Foot Locker. Her sister also said in a recent interview "I wish I was as fast as Nastasza when I was a freshman in high school."

she ran in the Adidas XC Challenge last summer with a bunch of college athletes including most of NC States roster. was in shouting distance of names like Hartman and Gapes for most of the race. finished within seconds of Allie Zealand and Kate Putman and Angelina Napoleon. but shes been doing crazy stuff like this since before she was in middle school. I mean she got second place in the New Balance Outdoor middle school mile when she was in 6th grade. ran a 5:04. then ran 4:51 at Brooks as a 7th grader. so her murdering all the middle school records as an 8th grader seems on brand. cool to see her finally getting some recognition though.
Lots of indoor records going down for obvious reasons. I know 8th grade girls who have run 10 48 or better outdoors. But new territory for sure in her case.

Lots of swimming. She has actually been held back from running.
She goes to Penn Charter a K-12 school. They placed 3rd in the DMR yesterday and have 2:06 and 2:08 800m runners. One who is going to UNC. I’m speculating but I have to believe she trains with them. There’s a phenomenal 8th grader in Florida- Shyna Collins. She runs 2:06. She goes to Dillard a 6-12 school that is pretty good in track. Think she must be training with the high schoolers also.
Yeah, I’d have to imagine it still has something to do with how few states encourage competitive middle school athletics, particularly how few allow them to compete with/against high school athletes.
