He takes the collegiate lead and breaks the facility record by 0.02 (Tinoda Matsatsa, 1:45.21).
GREAT job by Aidan !!! Would have had a big year last year if not for injury after a 3:56 opener in December. A recent 3:52.8 and now this mark. Outstanding.
Can cover 8/15/mile. Expecting some very good things at 1500m outdoors.

How bout them Cal Poly Mustangs! This kid is the real deal.
Vanhoy has a done a great job with the rest of the team this indoor season as well.
They should bring back Margie’s Diner for this performance lol
So it’s official Coach > Athlete
Haha okay, sorry if I don't know the names of the assistants, training partners, parents, friends, and the internal motivating driving forces of Aidan or any of the other athletes lol
Long trip out from California to Boston on a cold weekend was worth it. McCarthy said he knew he could go faster than the 1:46.55 he ran earlier this season and is feeling stronger than ever after his 3:52 mile a couple weeks ago.
Should be a great battle at NCAAs between McCarthy, Matsatsa, and Abdullahi Hassan.
Also what happened to Sam Whitmarsh from Texas A&M? Ran 1:44 last spring and finished 2nd at NCAAs but ran 1:49 and a DNF in his two 800s this season before SECs. Looks like he's rounding into shape because he won SECs but he won't be at NCAAs because he didn't run fast enough.

Took the win over Abdullahi Hassan who ran 1:45.53 this season but won't be at NCAA's

Correct me if I’m wrong but Cal Poly does not sponsor indoor track as an official sport which I believe makes him ineligible to run at NCAA? Is there an individual competitor exception of some kind? Schools in this situation can choose to fund a few regular season meets in uniform but are usually not eligible for post season.

He just missed indoor Nationals last year after running 1:47.39 (tying with the last time that made it in), but then ran 1:44.46 early in the Outdoor season. Is there a chance that he runs on the DMR at NCAA's?

Texas A&M will have some very rested runners for their DMR

I’m sure this isn’t the reason BUT he is a large guy with a lumbering stride and him running indoors doesn’t look great. Definitely a better fit for outdoor running.
