A DEVASTATING mistake by the coach. It cost the team a championship (and Gorriarian an individual title).

How would other coaches know if Harvard was putting her in their original intended event, or if the Harvard coaches analyzed the other team's entries (after they are publicly posted) then put Gorriaran in the event most favorable to her and the Harvard team?

I wasn't at the meet, but it sounds like a top runner was not properly entered in her best event by her coach(es). There's a deadline for making those entries. Apparently the coach(es) caught the omission after the deadline and petitioned to have the athlete entered in the event. Petition denied.

If you let that go once, it'll happen often--and, as someone suggested above, coaches will take a look at the legitimate entries, see an unpredictably weak event, and petition to add a late entry and pick up some cheap points. You can't run a championship, or a conference, that way.

Ultimately it falls on Gibby.

If Saretsky does entries, then how do we know Gorriaran was even on the list that Gibby sent to Saretsky?

Most likely - each individual coach logs into the account and inputs their entries themselves. Either way, it's Gibby's fault.
