The 2026 Commonwealth Games Have A Home
- Glasgow To Host A "Scaled Back" 2026 Commonwealth Games After the Australian state of Victoria backed out due to rising costs, Glasgow has stepped up with the backing of the Scottish government. Glasgow hosted in 2014 (where Usain Bolt was the main attraction) with 17 sports and the Games cost $717 million, but the total budget for the 2026 is expected to only be about $150 million and there will only be 10 sports. Most of the $150 million will come from compensation paid to the global Commonwealth Games Federation by Victoria.

He actually went to the University of Oregon on a basketball scholarship, but picked up track and won gold despite only having raced the 400m nine times before the Olympics. He won in 44.9, making him the first man to dip under 45 seconds.

Kenya's Isaia Lasoi was a close third in 58:10. There was a lot of excitement around Jakob Ingebrigtsen's half-marathon debut, but after going through 10k in 27:27 (a Norwegian national record and on pace for 57:54) he pulled up and stopped running. He continued on (with a couple more stops) to finish in 63:13. World half silver medalist Margaret Kipkemboi won the women's race in 65:11 over Judy Kemboi (65:43).

Hoare said he spoke with Ingebrigtsen about GST while cooling down in Zurich and that Ingebrigtsen said he was open to racing on the series but likely not in the 800/1500 group and that he did not like having to go race in the USA.

Ingebrigtsen Family Update
The eldest Ingebrigtsen son has gone public to Norway's largest newspaper Aftenposten with some of the details of the alleged abuse Gjert inflicted on his children. Even though the statute of limitations has passed on many of the alleged crimes, Kristoffer wants the world to know what happened as he feels like Gjert has been "allowed to set the terms" of their separation. "It's still good that people know. When Gjert is hyped up as a God in all directions, as he was for a while, he in some ways only gets worse."
The Diamond League Puts Its Foot Down
According to multiple sources, Diamond League CEO Petr Stastny announced today at the technical meeting for the Weltklasse Zurich meet that Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone will not be allowed to compete in the two Diamond League finals next week as she's not eligible since she didn't compete in any regular season DL meets. Meet organizers are contemplating having her run in the pre-program presumably against less-than-stellar competition.

Cheptegei suffered burns on more than 75% of her body when her boyfriend doused her in gasoline and set her on fire. The two were apparently arguing over a piece of land Cheptegei bought. Cheptegei finished 44th in the marathon in Paris and won gold at the World Mountain and Trail Championships in 2022.

They still managed to win two medals in Paris, steeple gold from Winfred Yavi and 400m silver from previously banned Salwa Eid Naser.
