I think he needs to change his racing style. He's so fast out of blocks and great the first 6-7 hurdles, but then his speed starts to carry in too close to the last few hurdles and he starts chopping his steps
I remember seeing an interview with Holloway a while back in which he said he considers Allen Johnson to be the high hurdles GOAT. With Holloway's Olympic gold, his résumé is now looking comparable to Johnson's.
Olympic + world championship 110m hurdles golds: Johnson 5, Holloway 4 (both won 1 Olympic gold)
Other 110m hurdles medals: Johnson has a world championship bronze, Holloway has an Olympic silver
Indoor 60m hurdles medals: Johnson has 3 golds + 1 silver, Holloway has 2 golds
Today, Holloway tied Johnson's record for going under 13 in the 110m hurdles 11 times
PBs: Johnson 12.92 and 7.36; Holloway 12.81 and 7.27
Johnson has a total gold medal advantage 8-6, but Holloway has the superior marks. Holloway has the world record for the 60m hurdles indoors, and he has the second- and fourth-fastest 110m hurdles times in history.
It wasn't that. He prefaced his crying motion with the words, "Whatcha gonna say now?". Clearly it was intended for some haters. Not sure who was talking smack about him pre-games.
The only thing I can come up with is that femke bol was just crying before his race, after losing to Sydney?

seriously. he is the most likeable guy on team USA.

He’s changed his racing style…it resulted in WC and Oly gold

Johnson also ran the 4x4 at the Olympics in the heats. Would love to see Grant do it as well.

Was thinking about this after the race. While Johnson’s medal tally is slightly better, Holloway has time to catch him. Johnson was an impeccable technician, while Holloway simply has once-in-a-century talent. Johnson also is #2 on the all time list, and owns the 60m hurdles record. When all is said and done, Holloway will be considered the greatest ever.
Just incredible he was basically unstoppable the whole year. and his confidence was through the roof. But even he was a little nervous before the gun and had a sigh of relief crossing the finish line. One good clip on a hurdle and he would’ve got nipped at the line. Really nerve wracking event, in terms of perfection. Feel like the nerves prevented sub 13.
Yes, he had nerves, but he ran 12.99. He said he started cramping around the ninth hurdle. Thankfully he was able to keep it together.
In the (well done) letsrun recap, he’s quoted as saying: “The relief is finally off the shoulders, so now these next couple races we can just go sub-13 hunting. That’s what Aries Merritt did in 2012 and at the end he was able to find a rhythm and figure that out.”
Here’s hoping he can close his season with a world record like Merritt did.
Holloway fully emodies everything we want to see in a high performing Olympian. His high confidence is earned and composed. Great interviews after his races. A good dude for sure.
