Nice, should give the league some moment is been lacking recently with getting more people to sign. One person I don't expect to see sign is Ingebrigsten. Jakob seems loyal to the DL and I don't have any interest in racing 800s

Good to see that Kerr gets his pacers he can finish behind
Looking forward to seeing them run in this league!
Jakob will never join this league now. Too scared.
The MLS of track and field.
How intriguing.
I'm sure there'll be some local fans.
More people will watch Grand Slam Track than Diamond League.
I'm actually hyped to see them run the 800m - I think they can run 1:43s or 1:42s
Also for the love all that is holy do anything other than flotrack - do a separate streaming app but not lame lame flotrack. I would much rather like a Peacock or Fox or another network
And with Peacock losing the Diamond League to Flotrack, I will never be able to watch the Diamond League again. It is sad, honestly. They will break the sport into two leagues and each will be worse than the original. Plus, none of this is going to be streamed on a normal platform that we all have (like Netflix or Amazon Prime or Peacock).
Peacock getting the rights to the DL is the worst thing to happen to the sport in recent memory.
So if I remember correctly the plan is to have 4 permanent racers and 4 challengers per event. It looks like 3/4 racers are already chosen. I could see Hobbs being a challenger with some others like Laros, and other Europeans. Who will be the 4th racer though? Don't see Jakob doing it as others have said. Will an 800 guy move up?
Doubtful, this will more or less only be interesting to Americans unless the broadcasters who show Diamond League here in Europe picks this up as well.
But how? These are no WL, no pacemaker races. Now some people might rejoice in this as it's "old school" racing but from a pure product proposition this is going to be a huge issue for GST.
For example when Centro won Rio in 3.50.0 which is clearly an absurdly slow time for an Olympic final, it was palatable because it was the Olympic final with so much on the line and most followers of the sport understand why a race like this will happen.
But Grand Slam Track isn't the Olympics or the World Champs and it's going to be compared the Diamond League or any other top one day meet on the circuit. So you can argue about the "purity" of a wavelight + 2 human body paced 1500m but winning times under 3.30 are going to be simply seen as a mark of a better product vs times potentially in the high 3.30's/low 3.40's because who is going out there sacrificing themselves to ensure a fast race?
So back to the 800 - I just don't see a scenario with a double on the line, where there are guys going out in 50.0 and driving these fast times either.
What most people are not getting about this league is they aren’t really trying to get hard core track fans to watch it. They are trying to bring in casual fans and others who aren’t fans at all. They are trying to throw out everything that track coverage has become and make it more modern and not worth about the times that much.
This is a good thing for the sport. We need more money going to the athletes and if they succeed this will help.
I was thinking more like ISL, the defunct swimming league. They tried to modernize things and offer a team concept, but nothing worked. Only hard core fans cared. The athletes ended up not getting paid.
This league has better backers and more of a chance. But I don't see how getting rid of field events and encouraging doubling fits with the new obsession with record breaking attempts. They won't have Duplantis. They'll have a bunch of tired runners wobbling around in not their main event. The fields will be shells of what we've seen in the Diamond League.
It might end up like LIV Golf in that the big league survives as superior but is forced to dramatically raise prize money and other concessions.
However, golf has considerably more depth than track and field. That's what LIV didn't account for. Yeah, they got many big names but it hardly made a dent or impacted the events week to week. With Grand Slam Track the absences definitely impact the races.
jakob would be 3k 5k anyway. they wouldnt even race
This will collapse before it even gets started. Not a single "slam" ever.
Except for the events longer than 1 mile, American athletes are among the absolute best in the world. Even beyond 1 mile, they're still pretty good. An American league, if promoted properly and in receipt of the proper financial backing, can be successful, provided the American talent signs onboard. This is really exciting and has potential.
