it might not guarantee anything but 1:41 is fast enough to get pretty damn close, especially with bicarb and super spikes. ngeny probably wasn’t much faster than 1:43 low

Ngeny was doped out of his gourd and everyone knows it. Look at his results in open 800 races. Filthy cheat.
there was a long thread on this the past winter or spring. i kind of argued that he was able to run through 800 within a second or 2 of max speed and hang on because of his "strength" (epo).
most were arguing he could run an 800 much faster than he had shown. but if i recall, he had given it a decent amount of chances.
I havent looked at the numbers in awhile, so i might be a bit off here. but you get the idea.
If you look at the top rankings of 1000m you'll notice a pattern like what OracleofDelphi was alluding to:
1) 2:11.96 Noah Ngeny
2) 2:12.18 Seb Coe
3) 2:12.88 Steve Cram
4) 2:13.08 Taoufik Makhloufi
5) 2:13.49 Ayanleh Souleiman
The top 1K guys tend to be world class in 1500m / mile (sub 3:30, sub 3:50). Obviously Ngeny with his #2 all time 3:43.40 mile, but Coe, Cram, Makhloufi, Souleiman are all up there. Of these top five only Coe is a 1:41 guy. Others are 1:42-1:44ish.
Arop is #4 all time at 800m with 1:41.20 but only is 3:38 / 3:57 at 1500m / mile. I think with proper pacing he has a shot, but will only take a couple tenths of Ngeny's record given his PB at 1K is currently 2:14. Worst case he's 2:12 or 2:13 which is still an amazing time.
Rudisha, despite being 1:40.91 at 800m could only manage a 2:19 1K. However, he was more on the speed side, and since Arop already is a 1:41 low AND a 2:14 guy, he certainly has a shot despite his less than ideal credentials at 1500m / mile.

Flawed logic. In 1999, he didn’t run any 800s after coming to Europe. In 2000, sure he ran some but one was a 1:44.49 win right after Kenyan Trials and the other was a middling 1:44.8 performance before Sydney in a 1:43.79 race at Monaco. He’d just run two good runner-ups in the 1500/mile with 3:47.67 and 3:28.12. He ran a high number of 1000s at a higher level both before and after the record instead of attacking maximal 800s.

DIdn't Rudisha never take it seriously though? He ran roughly up to 70 mpw so with his massive speed reserve 2:19 was nowhere near his potential

He only ran it once, in 2017 when he wasn’t in great shape. It was one of the last races he ever ran. 2:19 isn’t even close to what he was capable of in 2010-2012 form, IMO.
Arop is 2 seconds faster over 800 than when he ran his best time. Also, he acted as the pacer in that race, so his splits were not optimal. I don't know if he can get that record, but he should get into the 2:12 range if the first lap isn't too fast.
Didn't Arop run a 1000 a year or two ago and just die in the last 200? Anyone know what I'm talking about?
Yeah he was a pacer, and went through 400 in 51.x and 800 in 1:45.46 before fading to 2:14.35, still pretty strong. But it’s also important to consider his 800 PR was 1:43.26 at that point and now he’s run 1:41.20 and 3 straight 1:41s.
Disingenuous. He was KOd every time he ran against legit 1:43 runners in open races. That says a lot.
Your sample size is Monte Carlo, literally 1 race. Point to the other races that didn’t occur 3 months before championships or weren’t wins.
The guy is using Noah’s CAREER as a sample size, obviously. You are just another true believer who munches on the EPO fueled shorts of cheats like Ngeny.
