This is actually a cool story. I’m pretty sure his dad died and there is a lot riding on him for his family. I do kinda wonder how this works as he can’t get NIL. This should push Whitmarsh and Cohen if he returns. Would be training with Cook/Birnbaum amongst others? NCAA mid-distance is going to be must-see.

The NIL for international students thing has become overblown in the conventional wisdom. International students can have NIL deals if the "work performed" is done in their home country. They just don't have work authorization in the US. Phil Knight should be able to pay him to email a pic of himself in Nikes before he gets on the plane.
It's entirely a question of immigration law and work authorization, not anything about "NIL" per se

Feel bad for him but also makes me more suspicious. He ran 1:45 in 22 and 23 then runs 1:42 in an Olympic year when his family needs him to provide? I wouldn’t even blame him. Hopefully he’s clean but it raises red flags.

I understand the skepticism, he does need to back up his outlier 1:42 now after his poor Olympic performance (he said he fad a foot injury) to try to quell some doubts. It's worth noting he lost his father in December 2022 and his breakthrough has come in 2024.
He has/had a manager too - Kimberley Holland who manages Emmanuel Korir among other - mostly US sprinters.

Always OK to be suspicious and that race was a complete outlier. But to run at Olympics he has to be tested at least 3 times OOC in 10 months so as far as NCAA dudes he’s the most-tested.
is your coaching job on the line? are boosters calling for your head? come to Kenya, for a small 'donation' to the Kenyan Minister of Sports we can get your program back on the podium in no time
So does he really have the grades & test scores to get into school? If you recall Tobogo committed to the Ducks after the world's in Eugene, couldn't get him in.
Do you want college coaches to start giving you cookies? If you really care about developing, go to a school that has a good reputation of developing American talent. plently of inspiring stories from mid majors, d2 and d3 of kids who weren’t great in HS who developed into elite athletes.
Jerry really lost his way. "Allegedly" doped with Shelby, pushes all the exciting athletes out of Bowerman with the move to Eugene, and struggles in the NCAA so starts recruiting Kenyan olympians. Bill Bowerman is rolling around in his grave at this

I thought it was the baking soda? Well anyway, there was a lot of improvement in that event from quite a few characters. They all love their baking soda.

Worked out for him though.
He did?? How uneducated do you have to be to not admitted in that case? Seriously, what grade level was he functioning at that he was unable to attend state U while also being a high end world class sprinter??
He’s more like 30 and if the new NIL rules let this happen than so be it. Jerry needs some ringers and Oregon has the money to pay for it. The new rules are the Wild West. Might as well make hay while the sun shines.
