It's percentage of training load (whatever that is), not the percentage of time spent in each zone. Honestly that particular slide is just confusing and doesn't make much sense.
This is awesome and the kind of thing that should be included in track and field (and marathon) broadcasting. i hope more athletes find a marketable way to showcase this.
Even though the specific values differ, every day runners can learn from and relate to the longer preparation timescale.
Its not just the next 3:27, 12:47 or 2:07:00 thats interesting, its what got them there (or didnt).
So basically all of his training was either at recovery/endurance or VO2 for the 3 months leading up to the games? Double threshold goes home devastated.
It’s training load, not time spent. Obviously he can’t spend 50% of his time at 1500-5000 pace but those sessions would have more load impact vs his normal base training with mostly threshold
Edit: his max HR isn’t too far from mine and what’s impressive is that he only averaged around threshold (obviously went higher at the end) for a 13 min race. Really shows how easy this win was in general.

The difference is not that marked. It's not like 1 minute at VO2 counts for 10 minutes at threshold when calculating training load. He got 9-10x more supra-threshold load than threshold load.
But my actual theory for what's most likely is he's never bothered to set his HR zones on Coros so his threshold training is all showing up as supra-threshold
I thought this was light on actual training specifics, but I understand those details may not want to be shared.
Question for the Coros people out there. Do any of you use this load data to really determine daily training? I'm curious because as a Garmin user, I don't find any of their data to be useful when evaluating overall load during the week. I completely ignore it when determining what my body is needing. So I'd be interested if anyone is a experienced runner, meaning you know what your body is capable of handling, but the Coros data has influenced your decisions around training to the point where at least occasionally you trust it more than your own instincts and experience.

Agreed. It seems a little too convenient that his max HR is 220-age, which is rarely the case in reality especially for athletes (from what I understand).

Yeah, just look at his 5k's HR data. There's no way he ran at 183 at the end of a 5k when his max was 196. More like 193.

This is exactly what happened lol.
Reminds me of last week when I wore my wifes Garmin for a 10 miler at 630 pace (a steady run at sub-marathon pace for my current fitness). Bc it was set to her heart rate zones & max heart rate, it told me I just did an insane Zone 5/6 workout & I needed 3+ days to recover lol.
Yall need to take the fancy tech off & stop obsessing #justrunbaby
Have a hard time believing the heart rate data for the final seeing as he wasn't wearing a HR monitor (unless on his chest). Especially how it seems relative to his supposed max. Would make sense if he's sharing it so publicly - he knows it's inaccurate so doesn't care.

Based Jakob takes a fat paycheck from coros and then puts in zero effort to make this data meaningful. I respect the hustle.

If I was in 12:38 shape a 2:49 kilometer would feel like a jog

The watch itself records the hr data from what I understand. It can also be linked to a foot pod or arm band. Interesting technology.

Fake data.
It's to mislead his competitors and letsrun turkeytrotters.
