Damn, having to get her appendix cut out during her Paris trip. Not an ideal year for Seidel.
For the sake of her knees and recalibrating training, the lengthy unplanned break might be a blessing in disguise, not to mention no Olympic deadlines for a few years. We'll see.
I want to start by saying I really really like Molly Seidel. She's absolutely certified. High School and College national champion, first female runner to do it, goes on to shock the world twice, first by making the Olympic team and then winning a medal...all the while battling serious mental and physical health issues.
The article below really worried me. We only get one body. The types of ailments Molly and the author were trying to pass off as relatable quirks are alarming, and it begs the question; should someone with this many serious mental and physical health issues be a professional athlete? Sure, Molly is capable, but is it good?

No, it motivates or prompts the question. "Begging the question" is a fallacy in logic: assuming what needs to be proved.
Not usually a grammarnazi, but this one really bothers me for some reason.

She ate raw oysters in Paris the night before, what was she expecting when the Seine is full of sewage going out to the ocean and oysters feed in open water? Even triathletes got sick just swimming in the Seine for a short competition.

She has joined Taylor Swift on the Harris campaign trail.
Did she officially post an endorsement? I think I missed that. I know she's really into pride month and she posted a picture of her giving the camera middle finger because she was upset about a pretty clear-cut Supreme case that even Roberts and Barrett agreed on. Hope she can get healthy, but honestly, I think she's kind of like Tua in the NFL and they should both just retire and focus on their health and happiness. Hoping she has someone who cares about her enough to not be PC about and just say it like it is, that she is done and needs to get healthy

Yer a Moran
Yer not a doctor. It is widely known that appendicitis can be caused by bacteria and parasites from dirty food you eat, like what Molly did eating sewage contaminated raw oysters from Paris. Cook your food.

Well, I am. That's not widely known at all and is, to be honest, total nonsense.
And in addition, how oyters would be contaminated by the river water? They come very far from Paris. Do you think they put the open oysters in the river? to wash them?
This take is so ridiculous. The conspiration of the oysters...
I don’t know enough to answer you well. It’s a reasonable enough question, though.
As an outsider with limited info, my $0.02: But consider that this is a runner who had significant health concerns prior to some of her best results. She improved her health, trained diligently so that her athleticism would come to the fore , and had an amazing day, largely due to tenacity, to the joy of her country and her family, as well as something she could do course be proud of herself. And her college achievements showed that she was never a one-hit wonder.
Some of health issues can conceivably walk hand-in-hand with the difficulties of any manner of stress. She’s not alone in that, and to her credit, I don’t think she would claim that she is special in that regard. But her successes placed her in the limelight while she was encountering some setbacks, and then lots of fools thought it would be great to pile on.
So although she has had trouble with her knee and the appendicitis and other kinds of physical ailments that are hard to overcome, I can expect that she has endured enough to leave her in a place to make a strong recovery.
But if she winds up not making it all the way back and performing at the highest level, I think only the worst among us will automatically target her instead of realizing (a) she hasn’t been dealt the best hand since the Olympics, and (b) even though we all hope the best of her story has not been written yet, she has authored an incredible story to this point.
