jakob very well may have won the olympics if he'd kept it chill in the first half and then hammered the final 700. dude is unstoppable when he DOESNT LEAD the first half lmao
I think there was definitely something going on in this race. Obviously Jakob probably didn’t go fully all out but maybe the altitude had an effect on everyone. Lausanne is not typically made for super fast times. 3:27.83 is still the fastest at the meeting.
Yeah but Kerr and Tim C also need fast paces, so Jakob isn't alone. Point is that he shouldn't do what did in Paris. If he has to lead, then take it out in 1:52 and then start dropping the hammer over the last 700 or so.
He can get a gap on the kickers from 700 to 150 out and then their kicks won't matter

That strategy would only work if someone else takes the pace out at about 1:50. If it’s something like 2:00, he’ll get out kicked every time.
this isn't 2016 rio, at that level of competition, the 1500 is not going out in 2 flat.

nuguse / the kenyans would have gladly taken them thru at ~1:52-53
From 300m to 1300m, Jakob was extremely consistent with his pacing: 27.68, 27.85, 27.69, 27.74, and 27.76. Looked to be in control and was focused on having a solid race with plenty left in the tanks. IMO, he never intended to go after 3:26.00. His real target is the 3k in Silesia.

Jakob played it well, however he is the last pacer and I think a little more vulnerable now over 1500. The very top dogs are trying to use him as a pacer.
The two USA boys showed their cajones by going with him but Kessler isn't quite up to it yet and dropped off the pace at 150 to go meaning Hocker had to pass him on the bend to close the gap so it wasn't possible to close.
If Hocker was on rail being Jakob or if he passed Kessler on the bend we may have seen a closer battle.
At this stage I think it's as likely that Jakob will break the WR as it is that he will pace someone else 1450m to break the WR (just like the OR).
Maybe saving a little bit for the 3000m record attempt on the weekend?
I don't think he was saving much - it didn't appear like that optically and he just ran his third fastest time ever, which is still in terms of the overall grand scheme of 1500m running, one of the fastest times ever run (22nd all-time by all performances).
I just watch these races and think it's laughable the expectation that is on him. There was an overwhelming sentiment across many threads on this message board that the WR was going to be a foregone conclusion and it was going to happen tonight. If he even breaks 3.27.0 again this season it would be absolutely epic - Hicham is the only man to even breaj it more than once and do it multiple times (2) in a season.

I totally agree with all of this and I never thought the WR was even remotely in play here.

The surprising thing to me was actually the wavelight targets because he could’ve set up the drafting a little more. He’ll go hard in Silesia and one of Zurich and the DL final. I think we are more likely to see a time there.

If I'm Yared I'd pace him but demand like $100k if he breaks the record. Or at least a good percentage of the bonus.
3 days from now is gonna be fun. I truly believe Komen’s 3k record is about to expire.
I would be optimistic but the weather forecast shows 31 C (88F) and the race is at midday (no cover from the sun). Nobody breaks 3k WR in that kind of heat.
