While you can talk trash about Nike, I wouldn't be so naive to say I'd turn down the big $ from them if I was so good at my job they wanted me. It's just human nature, plus it can really open more doors and opportunities. Good on him for getting a good opportunity and taking it
Nike probably doubled his salary and Smith still gave NAU and all his athletes a years notice. look at Tennessee, that dude was out the door before the ink was dry on his Colorado contract.
What's left for Smith to accomplish at the collegiate level? This has nothing to do with principles but his own challenges. Don't forget he has a baby daughter and the collegiate seasons require much more travel than a pro coach. Probably has nothing to do with Nike, but the chance to create his own perfect situation for he and his family. After all, it's still America....and yes, name your price!

we can all complain if we want but letsrun is a mf haven of independent journalism/news/comment/incoherent mess (choose one or several).
it is SO RARE to have anything maintain its independence with corporations intermediating so many areas of life, especially online.
letsrun is incredible and i'm happy to support it.
its not without its issues for eg gault terrified of nike shutting him out, so having to pretend to believe shelby. or rojo's awful incoherent politics.
but it's our mess.
