David Monti was there and we just put his recap up on the homepage. He's got some interesting qutoes from Bor, D'Amato and new coach Ed Eyestone. Bor's were the most significant as I've been waiting for about 5 years for someone to target Ryan Hall's American half-marathon record and it looks like Bor is the man to go for it:
"I wanted to test my fitness," Bor told reporters after the race. "I got accepted for Valencia Half-Marathon (October 27) and I know it's going to be really fast." He continued: "For me to go run the American record in Valencia Half (sub-59:47), also for me to run 59:30, I knew I needed to run at least 57-something in this course. That was the plan."
Bor took the lead in the first mile and recorded a 4:31 split. That was a little faster than he wanted.
"I just wanted to maintain about 4:35," he said.
Hopefully he's done with the track. I'd like him to truly see what he can do at the half and eventually marathon before he gets too old. He's 34 years old right now. His 10 mile US record is 4:36 per mile from April but that wasn't as much as a 'full send' type of race as Valencia is, he needs 4:33 to get the half record. He can probably come close on a good day but it's not going to be easy.
Fisher, Klecker, Kincaid should give it a go too.
Valencia in late October wouldn’t work for Fisher or Kincaid due to their track schedules and time off this year. Maybe they can go for it next year. Klecker, depending on his recovery, could go for it this year along with Bor.
D'Amato shares about her DJ business, Good Luck wishes box business, Ability to be present in life and working toward a goal, Life in Florida, Life Lessons learned, Move from Virginia to Utah -
