As soon as the news came out he may be competing today, many began speculating the outcome (as all fans of any sport do) even some singing to the tune of a new WR. It seems like people had pretty high expectations for the outcome today, myself included, because it isn’t everyday an athlete of Jakobs caliber tackles a different event with so many unknowns. He definitely has potential in the event and could have likely ran around 60:xx with even pacing but a lot of this sport is guess work and at the end of the day the result is the result. After a rocky season with ups and downs I wouldn’t be surprised if the attention and media played a part in today’s result. There were lots of eyes on Jakob adding to the stakes as it is evident peoples opinions can change rather quickly. For example, after the Olympic final Jakob was downplayed as a trash talker who couldn’t back it up in this site, then after the 3k in Silesia he was the next biggest thing. I think the takeaways is that Jakob has it in him to run decently at this distance, likely not anything close to a WR for some time. He claimed he could show up today and perform and it wasn’t the outcome we hoped for as fans and I think he should be held to the standard he claims he’s capable of. Kudos to him for attempting it though. Just my 2 cents.
