Good for her if she feels like it's a good time to end it. Even if she didn't get a medal, I can always appreciate her longevity and dedication to the sport. Can't say she doesn't put her best foot forward when she lines up
But she still holds up her end of Scottish overrepresentation in elite athletics. There's her, Kerr, McColgan, McLaughlin, Fraser-Pryce. Scots names everywhere
I wonder if she's contemplating retirement now. She didn't really seem that into her training the last year, she didn't seem to be interested in going with the pace or trying to win a medal in the 1500m at the Olympics but more interested in a pb, and she seems to have developed a bit of a defeatist mindset along with hero worshipping Kipyegon and anyone else who beats her. Perhaps without the (over) influence of the controlling previous coach, she simply can't be bothered.
I feel bad for her. Imagine training your butt off, running your PB in the Olympics and missing out on a medal behind two women who made, shall we say, eyebrow-raising jumps this year. That had to be frustrating for her.

Muir's season is going well by Muir standards. It's not her fault that Hull and Bell decided to jump into another stratosphere: remove those two and the podium would be a much more expected Kipyegon, Welteji, Muir. I doubt she's contemplating retirement but it must be slightly disheartening to be setting multiple PBs only to get destroyed by people who were non-factors 6 months ago.

I don't think she's done yet. She has said after the Olympics that she wants to try again at 1500 in 2028, and maybe take a shot at 5000 too.

No, I think she'll go at least one more year. She's been talking quite a bit about the 5000 over the last 18 months and I think that will be a focus next year. She may even use the rest of this year just to build endurance - something which is still new to her after years with Andy Young. She's still a gutsy runner and I think she has unfinished business even if it isn't necessarily about medals so much
I remember all the hype back around 2015 -2016 right before the Rio Olympics about how she was the next big thing in the 1500m only for a certain FK to permanently kill that noise, especially the following year at the world championships in london, which muir accepted and never tried to challenge her again but run for 2nd place at best always. Perhaps she should seek assistance from ukad and find out what 'aid' they offer to georgia bell and kelly hodges.

Bell and Hull are not the same. Hull ran 3:57 four times last year + a 4:15.34 mile where she was 0.10 behind Muir. She was 7th in Budapest vs. 6th for Muir. And she was running 3:58.xx already in 2021. Nipping at Muir’s heels and 3.5 years younger. Bell OTOH was born the same year as Muir and was absolutely nowhere while Muir was the British record holder for 8 years…until suddenly Bell ran 3:52 at 30.

I think that Muir has more class than to start making allegations in public but agree about being disheartened. First Hull, then Bell, in a year when everybody seems to be suddenly setting PRs by at least 2-3 seconds.
She will come back and is very popular here in the US. In fact, she's my favorite 1500m runner, tough as nails.

She ran a smart race in the Olympic final, laying off the crazy first 400m which did in the US contingent.
Any faster in the first 400m, she'd have ended up with a slower time. As it was she ran the fastest time of her life.
I'd say the problem is that the event has moved past her. She's run faster than ever, but there are six women under 3:53 ahead of her.
Possibly, she could move up to 5000m, where she'd be dangerous in a more tactical race.

Muir missed the Olympic podium by .76 seconds. Get a grip.
