Why not? It’s clear that Lausanne is not made for super fast times. I’m quite surprised Jakob ran this fast at a meeting like this. Good for him and Hocker.
Exactly. He is brushing up against his ceiling. you nailed it. The ceiling is 3:26.5 so you are correct that he will run 3:27s fairly regularly when he has pacemakers.

Wanyonyi just ran 1:41.1 twenty minutes ago
While true, Wnayonyi aslo ran 1:41.19 at the olympics after several rounds (only 0.08 seconds slower), in a championship race, and multiple 1:41:X performances this year. The result doesn't indicate its a fast track. Times were fairly slow accross the board at this meet.
What makes you think he has hit his ceiling? He's 23 and has been getting faster year over year and is only 0.73 off the record.
His time today was outstanding!. Image running rounds and finals for the 1500 and 5K on the biggest stage, dealing with the highs / lows of the Olympics, the media coverage, the attention and scrutiny. Then coming back 12 days later and dropping a 3:27. That's pretty damn impressive...
There is plenty left in the tank. I won't be surprised if he sets the 3K record this coming week and the 15 in Zurich.

Yeah really slow apart from the 1:41s and 3:27/29.
He said in a interview afterwards that this was pretty much a re-tune up race and that after a bit of rest he was getting back into full training and racing now.

Most pros set their PRs in their early 20s unless it's a new event they're specializing in.

Yes look at Hicham. He was 23 when he ran 3:26.00 and 24 when he ran 3:43.13. Jakob will be 24 next month.
I think there is a sweet spot between 23 and 27. Also with the evolution of training (more thresholds versus pounding out 400s) and the advancement of shoes (easier on the legs), I suspect we'll see more PRs in the mid to late 20s. Here are the ages of a few other 1500 world record holders. Jakob is entering his prime now. I think he has a couple of big years to come!
