Pagers? Great to see modern tech has made its way to Lebanon. Was someone able to get to a phone booth and call Lebanon's 911? I hope no video stores were blown up in this tragedy.

Terrorists use pagers because they are passive receivers and do not transmit location. Evidently Mossad found a work around to this. Crazy!
This is fascinating. Because I have no idea how through software alone you could generate that amount of explosive force to do that much damage. Meaning, the devices must have had additional hardware installed. And that could have only been done at a scale this large prior to each of them obtaining the pager. So we're talking months of planning and infiltrating suppliers for each of them to get one of these "hot" pagers. And for all of that to not get detected that the pagers were tampered with is wild. Mossad is patient and pretty much the best in the world at this, but even for them this is incredible.
Time for Hezbollah, Hamas, and Iran to just take the L and make peace. Otherwise they will continue to get humiliated like they have for the last 70+ years.

Lithium ion batteries explode if they are overheated or overcharged. The malware must have been able to cause the pagers to run in a loop to make the batteries overheat (or something like that). Every now and then, devices malfunction and cause the lithium ion batteries to explode. So, you do not need anything added on. You just need to figure out how to cause a sufficient malfunction that makes the batteries explode.
Israel is the silicon valley of the Middle East and is a world leader in cyber security tech. IDF and Mossad have long had a pipeline from Israel's tech sector to combat Iran's cyber attacks. Not at all a stretch to imagine that Israel could design malware to cause pagers to explode. It is a bit surprising that Hezbollah, with its access to Iran's resources, would not have been able to detect the cyber attack.

My iPhone shuts off if it’s overheating. It could just as easily be encouraged to run more stuff when it sensed it was overheating.
Does seem like an escalation though, which is just great and not sure they care, but obviously lots of innocent people could get caught by this.
I remember various codes you could send to someone to communicate a message in shorthand on those things. No one ever taught me that code to make the other guy's pager explode.

Reminds me of Arabic texts spammers would send a few years back, that causes your phone to instantly reboot once it receives the message.
Maybe they loaded letsrun thousands of times on the pagers. Considering that it makes my phone overheat after only 1 minute, if it's done thousands of times it could cause the battery to explode.
