WR to close the meet
WR to close the meet
His shtick got boring like 4 centimeteres ago.
Yawn.
100%. could care less about his milking of the event. and who cares about the pole vault anyway. more of a gymnastics event.
Jakob goes home devastated.
yawn - exciting to watch in real time but boring in reality
Scoring table says that 6.32m = 9.58 s for Bolt at 1355 points. I say it's nowhere near as impressive.
I would guess that 6.32 would stand far longer in the record books than 9.58 but perhaps I'm wrong.
Assuming that Mondo would retire.
Legitimately - who cares about pole vault?
On a website where 99% of the regular users are distance running fans, I think most of us can agree that breaking the coveted Daniel Komen record that has stood since 1996 is significantly more significant than a pole vault record that keeps getting broken on a routine basis.
6.17, 6.18, 6.19, 6.2, 6.21, 6.22, 6.23, 6.24. 6.25. 6.26...I understand the financial incentive and don't fault him for it, but knowing he can probably jump 6.4 or so makes it impossible for me to get excited by these WRs. Quite possible we will never see what he is truly capable of if he's still milking WRs 1cm at a time as he passes his prime or god forbid gets injured.
This right here!
I imagine that both you and I would use the same approach as Mondo and Bubka.
I didn't even watch it. Why bother? There'll be another soon anyway.
No. Mondo didnt upstage Jingy.
Mondo barely bettered his own old record, which he's done 10 times in the last four years, and beat a record that wasn't even three weeks old by .01 m.
Jingy meanwhile obliterated a record that nobody - not El G, not Geb, not Bekele other than him came within two seconds of the better part of three decades by 2.5 sec.
With all due respect to Mondo, today was Jingy's.
That's what happened to Bubka. He was (obviously) past his best when he stopped adding 1cm to the WR so we never really found out what he is capable of. We just need his sponsors and the meet people to say we will double the bonus if you break it by 2cm, triple it for 3cm etc.
The computer tells us Mondo would have cleared around 6.30 in some of his WRs.
I think the point was, the fans were way more into mondos record than jakobs. Pole vault is way more aesthetical and inpressive looking than a person running for 7.5 laps.
World Athletics tweeted an awesome photo of the two of them and other notable winners at the Silesia meet hanging out together:
The guy that hit the bar with his penis because he was just too massive is more impressive to me. Mondo needs to up his game
I agree but if you go to general sports forums and Olympic forums tonight it's not even close. I was surprised at the disparity. Duplantis' record is receiving raves and one thread after another with hundreds of comments, while Jakob is a blip with a handful of comments.
The pole vault bar is an easier reference point than 7:20. Jakob could have run 7:14 and those fans would be asking, is that good?
