Respectfully, every race this year has had the same pattern... he goes out fast, then fades... or at worst, DNF's.
Anyone got any insight?
The simplest answer is Stewy, while still able to produce fast times, can’t close well enough to compete at the highest level any more in the 1500. This season he’s fallen off after, Paris additionally. But before that that even if the races go out modestly, it looks like he went out too fast because guys will pretty much make him look like he’s standing still in the last 400. The 5,000 he’s not at a DL level. So he’s a bit of a tweener and unless it’s 3,000 I’m not liking his chances to finish well.
Stewy will continue to run on the circuit as a pacer for the next several years as part of NB's MTC. At some point I would suspect he would move to the roads. Would be curious to see what he could run a half in.
What if he maxed his potential and is declining naturally like every other runner who has ever existed? Or maybe he had some setbacks and will come back stronger than ever. I think he has already gotten more out of his talent than most. Very few are destined to be world beaters. Maybe he will have a resurgence like some others have done. His 1500m best might be behind him, but he could make a good run at sub 12:50. Whatever happens, he has always shown himself to be a fighter.
Is that fact? He certainly looked like the 2nd pacer, but he wasn't announced as one in the broadcast.
They cut away from so much of the race on the broadcast that I'm not aware of when he dropped out, and if he was in front or had stayed in the race and faded before dropping.
