“I'm very careful to say I didn't win the Trials, but you know I did feel great on that day and he didn't feel too hot.

“You know I gave myself about 15 minutes to kind of really sit with you know maybe the consequences of what happened that day. After that, [I have] no regrets whatsoever. Yes there was prize money on the table and fame and glory, but honestly, what I did that day I don't regret in the slightest -- it was a true manifestation of my character in the highest.

“When I look back at that moment I really go back to the interview [where] I said I knew that I would be better in Paris training with Conner every step of the way and in Paris and we saw that happen, right? I definitely was pulled and inspired and motivated by Conner in all of my training up to Paris and and I was pulling with him for him every step of the way in Paris trying to close that gap and to go 8-9 and have two guys top 10 in the world, I was really happy about that.”

The men's race was close with the top 4 finishing within 20 seconds of each other and Mengesha, the 2019 World U20 Xc champ, beating Kenya's Cybrian Kotut by 5 seconds. It was also DEEP as 14 broke 2:07 and 22 broke 2:08. Ketema, who had the fastest debut (2:16:07) in the marathon earlier this year in Dubai, dominated the women's race winning by over two minutes.
