The Armory Unveils a Fast New Blue Track in NYC

Everyone knows if you want to run fast in New York to head to the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in Upper Manhattan. That experience may get even faster as in preparation for the upcoming 2024-25 indoor track season, The Armory is unveiling a newly resurfaced blue Mondo track intended to enhance the speeds on the famous oval.

The color change to blue from red is not the only enhancement, as the track itself underwent a major overhaul. According to The Armory, unlike the most recent resurfacings, this track, installed by Miller Sports in September, removed five older layers of track before installing the fresh Mondo surface. The goal is increased spring and responsiveness for athletes.

The 2024 Millrose Games featured world records in the men’s 2-mile by Josh Kerr and women’s 60m hurdles by Devynne Charlton plus an American record in the women’s mile by Elle St. Pierre. Who knows what’s in store for next year but tickets for the 2025 Millrose Games (February 8) went on sale last week.

Before the season kicks into full gear, The Armory will host a one-day track & field camp on November 17 featuring seven Olympians as guest coaches. Aries Merritt, Raven Saunders, Shelby McEwen, and Katelyn Tuohy are just a few of the stars who will be helping to guide the next generation of athletes at the camp.

The Armory was the home track of LetsRun.com, but now that LetsRun co-founder Weldon Johnson has moved from New York to San Francisco, we’ll have to settle for being one of the 300,000 visitors to The Armory each year.
