Impressed by Lex and Leo Young

I think that last year they didn't have the year that everyone was expecting them to have. But they took some time settling in to college life I think and now they are only going to continue to improve

Good run for the twins, much better than their freshman year. I have never heard of the guy who won the race.

Yes, Leo was 2nd, right behind Edward Bird who is no slouch. Bird was 44th in the east final 5000m last year and has best of 3:43/13:51, in addition to a sub 8min 3000m (7:59.99).

Where did they run? Link to results? I don’t see any info about their race on the home page of this website.

I agree with the gist of your post. These twins are fast and running great!

However, the guy who beat them, a "no name" with no five-star high school results and whose college PRs are slower than the twins ran in high school, is also a sophomore.

That rando won the meet and beat these twins? Perhaps that should be the headline?

p.s. Another thing that is shocking to me is how fast the 200th kid was. Can you imagine running well and finishing 200th? I remember college cross country and honestly, 24 flat used to be super rare. 25 flat was still considered a very good runner. Times have changed.

This “No name” is British. He was the 2nd fastest European U20 last year at 5000m and he won a medal in the 3000m at the U20 world championship

I didn't write "no name" to be disrespectful. I was pointing out that Bird won the race despite the fact that there aren't 500 threads about him, his HS times were not "all-time records" and he was never predicted to be the "future of the sport" like the twins were.

I am a fan of Lex and Leo but it is certainly frustrating for other runners who beat them to still live in their shadow...

Bird won bronze at the U18 European champ 3000m back in 2022. He did not come out of nowhere.

The twins couldn't even begin the three freshmen years at byu until 2028.

The result looks very good for the Young brothers. Good to see them doing well after stagnating or regressing a bit as freshmen! However, Bird's victory did make me wonder how tough this field was. Looking through it again makes me think it was a lot weaker than Nuttycombe, even if Cole Sprout was top five and didn't win. When he's healthy he is a potential national top five guy. But who knows what kind of shape he is currently in? Stanford had a very narrow spread and the top 8 were in a pack until Leo Young went for it with 300m to go, so I think that the course was short or fast, the athletes were not going their fastest (hence, still together) and so this is not an indicator that the Youngs are national contenders just yet. If the field was going harder than I think, that would be a great sign for Stanford because they had three freshmen run very well, within about 30-40 seconds of Young and Sprout. Dargan and Bergeron (who led the three freshmen) were low to mid 8:40s runners for 2 mile and Koon ran 8:34, despite really lacking speed and so probably will be a very good 10k guy. That should give them five really good guys in a couple of years to challenge for a title.
