Mike Smith is far overrated as a coach. He has the talent and still can’t get it done.
Agreed, seems like he was lucky with his top dog being so good in the past and doesn’t really do a good job with the entire team. He tends to screw up their peak almost every time. The 7000ft is a gift and get a huge advantage. If Smith was a sea level coach he would be average

He was a sea level coach back at Georgetown, where he did a pretty good job.....

What??? How is a bad performance right now evidence of messing up the peak?
MileSplits official Boys Junior Varsity formatted results for the 2024 Union County Conference Championships, hosted by Union County Meet Management in Clark NJ.
Colin Sahlman ran 3:33 last year. I hope it wasn’t Mile Smith’s race plan for Colin to lead the entire 1500m final at NCAA’s on track. I say this because NAU always blows opportunities to win with bad race tactics.

Just like Geordie Beamish did in the mile final?
Nico Young losing to Parker Wolfe in the NCAA 5k final last year was some dumb tactics too. I think Drew Bosley lost the indoor 3k title too after breaking the NCAA record during the season in that event.

16 of the top 20 finishers at last year’s NCAA XC championships, were from sea level schools, so I don’t think training at 7000’ is such a huge advantage.

That just proves those sea level coaches are that much better
