The Oregon women were also soundly beaten by Utah. This won't help them get an at-large bid to Nationals, assuming that Washington and Stanford will get the auto spots.

The W better hope they beat Wisconsin and Minnesota at the Big 10 meet.

Course had to be short? Last K for everyone was extremely fast relative to their penultimate 2k. 2:33 for clinger? No way he closed his race in 408 pace
TBF Oregon was only running a few of their top 7 guys.
HOWEVER, the really bad news is they were pretty far back from BYU's 7TH MAN. For a supposed "national power" legacy program, this is horrifically concerning.
What's somehow worse is that they have exactly ONE potential at-large point going into their conference meet (Texas). Only 3 teams in the Big10 are ranked, so they are looking likely to have AT MOST 4 points (assuming they upset the 3 teams ranked ahead of them) going into the West Regional - which, like last year, is historically weak. They are going to have a tough time qualifying for nationals.
Ok, fine- great. You can probably find 25 other threads on that. This post has to do with why the Ducks are getting destroyed. It was embarrassing.
Breaking: number 22 ranked team gets crushed by number 2 ranked team
Was just going to say this. The truth is both the men and women did what they should/could today. Both got 2nd. No one thought the men were going to beat BYU. Losing by 1 point vs 100 doesn’t change KOLAS which is all they are after right now. If the women were going for the win they would have run Kazmierska and Ayalidiz and Barnet. im sure both coaches are pleased with the runner up result. Rankings don’t matter later - it’s head to head wins bs losses. No matter the point total.

Still haven’t really answered the question, but whatever. We’ve had some lean times, especially in the 80s. Hope they get the ship righted. This Jerry thing doesn’t seem to be working out.

You honestly- with a straight face- can tell me that Birnbaum is happy with where he is today?

Maybe they are in the middle of a hard training block and he’s thrilled? Who tapers for this meet realistically. since you brought up Birnbaum - I will say if I were his coach I would expect him to look like he’s trying a little harder down the last 100 meters - guy looked like he didn’t give a sht.

Don't the Ducks have a low stick they're saving for Big 10s and beyond? That transfer from SC?

All good points. I knew before the race that Maddy Elmore would run for Oregon. I assumed that essentially all of Oregon's top runners would run. Elmore did not disappoint by winning the race, but the rest of the team was not up to the task. As other posters mentioned for the men, now is the time to run the big guns. I was thinking that with the top runners, the Oregon women could pull the upset. As another poster mentioned, kolas points do matter for a team like Oregon. I think Oregon will likely beat Wisconsin and Minnesota at Big 10s, but having insurance points gives peace of mind.
