wonder how smith will balance having to race a lot more than he is used to
Luis battled back from an injury this past season. The year before, he was racing indoors and Europe frequently. I don’t think this is an issue at all for Smith nor Luis.
Now that Luis and Hiltz have signed with GST, I wonder if any one else from Smith’s group will sign as well.

On that front, it helps him immensely that he doesn't have a national championship trials. The guy that Smith seems to try to protect from racing the top guys seems to be Abdi Nur. Unclear why, but it's not an accident at this point. I think that should be it for Smith's group as far as GST racers. Nur/Young/Woody could certainly be challengers.
For the final 3K/5K spot, you'd obviously love to have one of the remaining best Ethiopians (Barega, Aregawi, Gebrhiwet, Kejelcha, Mehary), Kenyans (Krop) or Ugandans (Kiplimo). After that the next tier is Lobalu, Kurgat, O. Chelimo, Wildschuut, and Haile Bekele.
Kurgat and Wildschuut are the only guys based in the US of all of these, though.
Clearly not a top four 5k guy, but I was happy to see this signing. Hes never favored. He’s former California state cross country and track champion. He’s repping Guatamala/ Central America. So easy to root for. I always find myself pulling for him in diamond league and major races.

To be fair, he was 4th in the last 2 WC so maybe top 4 isn’t out of the question when healthy.

When you say they (Luis and Hiltz) signed, do you mean they signed (luis and Hiltz) or do you mean Luis and they signed?
Fair point. Ive notice that when GST cant book the Paris Olympic podium, they promote Worlds results. With that in mind, Grijalva has just as good of an argument to be included as many other guys.

I do kind of agree with your premise though. If everyone was healthy and worlds were tomorrow, I’m probably not picking him to be in the top 4 despite the fact he has done it. Which I realize doesn’t make a ton of sense lol.
