Hmmm…
I’ve been a massive Tuohy fan for years. With that being said, I’ve always supported her silence during injuries, etc in her high school and collegiate career.
But, she’s a professional now. I believe that when you are paid to do something, you are held to a higher standard. And I ask “What’s going on? What are you doing? What is your next race? Etc.”
Okay, so. Who will have the greater career? I’ve said MANY times on many forum posts over the years, something that goes like this:
Tuohy has been counted out SOOOO many times. (Oh she’s done, her career is over, etc.).
Each and every time she has come back and set records. Every time.
I think Valby will have the better PRs in the long run. But we need to temper our expectations a lot and quickly.
I hate to say it, but for me, women's running has kind of been ruined. I am not a big fan of the "everyone is doping" theory but honestly, with times like 3:49, 14:00, sub-29, and 2:09, there is NOTHING an American runner can do to be relevant in the coming era.
Remember when Jordan Hassay was trying to break 31:30 minutes in the 10km? She never did. Remember when she tried to break 15:30 in the 5km? She did it! 15:28! That is just "quaint" in the current era.
But getting back to Valby and Touhy... I don't think either of them can run the kind of kind of times we see today; and sadly, the next decade will be full of even more "insane" results. The coming wave of athletes will make everything American women do sort of irrelevant. It reminds me of how it was for American men in the late 1990s.

I appreciate that Valby’s delivered more on her potential thus far, but this seems pretty irrelevant in the scheme of the question. Career-wise, if both can stay healthy, I’d give the edge to Tuohy based on her ability to produce a kick, but it’s extremely tough to judge this early for both of them. Hopefully they can both be competitive on a global stage.
If you asked me last year the answer would be very different.
Got to go with Valby now, but it isn't gauranteed. I don't know if Valby has enough raw speed to ever win anything globally. But she certainly has had the better career up to this point. Tuohy's recent 15:07 performance (with no real competition) is promissing given all her previous injuries.

Are you admitting that even if the American women were using the same dope as the Africans that they cannot come close to 3:49, 14:00 and 28:58? I think this is true although I do believe that a doped Athing Mu can run 1:53 and 3:55, which is not nothing.

Neither is going anywhere in the 5k or 10k probably. Maybe PV can be a better 10K and up runner. KT has got to be more of an JS/ESP/SH runner. If she is going to make any noise, it probably has to be in the 1500/3000/maybe Steeple though I doubt that is her thing.
Really, they're both drawing dead against E. Africans. They got to do the Chari Hawkins bit if they want to get white people runner famous.

Honestly she can already run 3:55
If Jessica Hull can run 3:50 why can't American women run that fast?

And now the American men has caught up with all the African dopers, which means that they are on full throttle doping too.
