Sawe went sub-4:20 to decimate a large men's pack won by more than a minute as nearly all of the major players came to run as the next 5 finishers were Kiplimo, Mutiso, Nageeye, Tola and Kipchoge. Assefa and Jepkosgei went out hard (66:40) and dropped Hassan before halfway. Assefa put nearly 3 minutes on Jepkosgei after 35k even though both were slowing down. Recap coming.

Assefa and Hassan, the #2 and #3 fastest women in history, clashed in the final 400m in Paris when Hassan tried for a late inside pass. Expect another tight finish in London on Sunday.

We have boots on the ground reporting from London. Sawe's coach Claudio Berardelli, who has coached the likes of Evans Chebet, Martin Lel, and Benson Kipruto, said "I've done this job for 21 years. I'm not sure I've ever coached a guy like [Sawe]."

    On Wednesday, Nike announced that Kenya's Faith Kipyegon will attempt to break four minutes in the mile on June 26 in Paris. Spoiler alert. She's not going to break 4. And it's not going to be particularly close. Did you know the 1k time she ran on Saturday where she just nearly broke the WR is still below sub-4 mile pace?

    Crouser surpringly only ended up 5th in the competition but he was thrilled with how the meet went off. "The field events can be highlighted, and they can be front and center. That we have a loud, enthusiastic crowd out here just for a field event - it's a testament to that. It doesn't have to be just track. It can be just field."

    Gear outsprinted Karissa Schweizer (4:24.40), Gracie Morris (4:24.73) and Shelby Houlihan (4:25.06) to claim the US title and American record. Ciattei beat out Sam Ellis (3:54.93) and Craig Engels (3:55.09) to win his third US road mile title.

    Lokedi turned the tables on Obiri after losing four straight and picked up a cool $200k in the process as the top 3 all broke the old course record of 2:19:59.

    There were some entertaining races in Kingston, with Grant Fisher winning an extremely tactical 5,000 and Hiltz (1:58.23) holding off Diribe Welteji in the 800. But the big stadium was largely empty on Friday night.

    WA announced today that San Diego will no longer host the World Running Champs.  Ken Stone is reporting in the Times of San Diego that the event was moved despite there reportedly being a $3 million title sponsor. We believe race registrations were nowhere near what they were expecting but feel that easily could have been fixed. With 1 week notice, easily 10,000 people would have signed up if they had known this was a possibility.

    This is a stunning development for a championship but the lights will be off for the first 1/3rd of the race.
    *MB: Jakob says wavelight wasn't added at Euros at his request: "I wasn't aware of that. I assume it's a spectator stunt."

    MB: US Olympians will now receive $200k each thanks to a $100 million donation by Ross Stevens They'll have to wait for the money though as they get 100k 20 years after they compete (or when they turn 45) and then 100k goes to their estate when they die.
