Des is one of the runners who can say she got the most out of her talent. Congratulations to her on a successful career.

I did not enjoy this race at ALL

and I certainly did not enjoy the performance of Dez or even Connir Mants

I'm making this the official appreciation thread as pre-race she said this was her final competitive marathon.

Des is signed up for the Tunnel Hill 50 Mile in November.

She has had a wonderful career. I hope she really does retire and not be one of those hanger ons that sucks the life out of sponsors for the next decade. The podcast has run its course and I feel sorry for some of the past greats when they are wheeled out there in front of a crowd that no longer remembers them.

Classic LRC post. "The podcast has run its course" is one of the dumber takes I've read on here recently. It's a podcast that mostly discusses the current competitive running scene by two former Olympians, what it's like to be tv commentators, gives tips and advice, etc so umm yeah. Better take: the podcast is great, seems to have a pretty large listener base, and, guess what, it turns out you don't need to listen to it if you don't want to. I hope Des transitions to ultras (seems like she is) and continues to crush it...tells stories on the podcast about it.

according to brooks she will continue with the podcast, that they fund, run ultra's (signed up for tunnel hill 50m) and work with brooks on various special project. she happens to be very well respected amongst her peers. maybe you should now go bury your head in the sand. you don't know what your talking about.

I know this is gonna be cheesy, but she's not passing a torch...she's carrying her own into whatever she goes into next after having helped so many others light their own ways.

The ESPN coverage did the greatest disservice to the broadcast yesterday by not having a camera on her for those final two turns and run down Boylston. Just a quick blink and you miss it "oh and here's the ladies cheering on Des after she finished her final professional marathon".

Side note...can we get a thread dedicated to trashing the handling of the coverage and all the missed opportunities, preferably with the profanity filters turned off?

This!!! There was essentially no coverage of the top American women (some royalty in my opinion, like Des) in the last twenty minutes!

Great run by Des, and Sara Hall with yet another high quality Masters race as well, right on Des' heals. Anyone know what happened to Keira? Her, and a few other pros were back in the mid-2:30s.
