Had insane ground to make up and the quality of the legs in front of him was insane. Surprised he took the baton almost 2 seconds back, winner ran a 45.04
All this talk of QW being an Olympian and I feel like this is one of the first races since the Olympics where he reallllllyyyyy showed it.
I am leaving the stadium now disappointed again. Been talking smack to Jamaica last two years. I thought for sure this was it. Have to find one more guy. Collin is a great kid, smart going to Stanford but he not quite fast enough in that 3rd leg for Kingston. A Jamaican coach told me 3:05 and got damnit they did it. I tip my cap. Quincy is him.

Your smack is justified. Jamaican HSs are littered with 19 year olds. It's the biggest reason they can compete with the US, outside of well US FL+CA+TX teams never show up these days at Penn.
Forgive me if I’m wrong but isn’t a 44.20 from the blocks faster than a 43.99 relay split, when converted? Obviously, the 43.99 is a great performance but I don’t necessarily think it’s his fastest.
Bullis's three other kids ran in the low-mid 47s, very good of course, but I think one of them had run 46.x in qualifying. If each of their other kids had run their best, they might have pulled out the win. Of course, then they might not have needed Wilson to run under 44. In any case, amazing to finally break Hawthorne's 1985 HSR. They are to be very very highly commended.
The Penn record is 3:03.79 by Calabar, so amazingly, Hydel (3:05.93) wasn't really close to that.
It looks like he ran about 1/2 of the first turn and the full second turn in lane 2. I figure Quincy ran about 5.8m extra. If that is true, he could have run a 43.37 split in lane 1.
